For those who are interested in this tomb inscription. Peter Bossom has forwarded me three photos of the inscription on the church wall and one which shows an interesting resume history and variant translations. Please contact me on the attached email address for a copy of the pictures. Bassett House would appear from old maps to be just inside the Claverton Parish boundary. Jim I don't have handy the inscription. It is in Latin but the translation I have seen is a poetic way of saying the Wm and Catherine each died on their 80th birthday. William's Will calls him William Bassett of Beaupre (which is in Glamorganshire). I suspect the Bassetts of Bath were connected with the Claverton BASSETTs. David
