Just to save people from looking through too many pages, the essay I mentioned on www.histpop.org about "Relationship to head of household" is at the bottom of page 5 of the essays. It does state that the relationship of 'boarder, etc.' was only added in 1861, so that could explain the change from 1851 in the original query. Celia
