Hello I am new to this list, joining you from Canada. My research interests in Somerset are the following families; HILL, FRY and BRAGG. My 3rd great grandfather and earliest known ancestor was Thomas HILL, born 1790/91 in Wellington. He married Jane FRY also of Wellington, born 1791. They were married in 1814. Thomas HILL was a Bricklayer then Mason. Thomas and Jane HILL had the following ten children, all born in Wellington William born 1814 John b. 1816 Twins, James and Thomas b. 1819, both died in infancy Thomas b. 1820, moved to Wales and became a miner. Sarah b. 1824 Mary b. 1826 Jane b. 1828 George b. 1830, Married Sarah BRAGG and moved to Chard James b. 1832 George HILL born 1830 is my 2nd great grandfather. He married Sarah BRAGG of Wellington in 1851. Their children were; Thomas b. 1852, Wellington Jane b. 1855, Wellington James b. 1857, Wellington Ellen b. 1860, Taunton Ann b. 1862, Chard John b. 1864, Chard, John HILL moved to Preston, Lancashire, married Sarah Jane WHITESIDE My current brick wall is Thomas HILL, not an uncommon name. I know when he was married and to whom, but can't find his birth/baptism nor his parents. He states on the 1841 and 1851 census that he was born in Wellington, Somerset, and the ages he states would put his birth at 1790/91. If any of these names ring a bell I'd love to hear from you. Other surnames related to my HILL's in England are RILEY, CARNEY and SCHOFIELD. I have documentation for many of these ancestors, primarily birth and marriage registries and I'm happy to share anything I have. Cheers Michael
Hi Michael, I was very interested to see your email. My ancestor was John HILL, George's brother, 1816-1898. He married Sarah ALWAY in 1838 and they had 6 children, one of whom was my G-grandmother, Ellen. She married Charles SLATTER and went to live in HEREFORD. I have photos of her. Like you, I wasn't able to get back further with Thomas. I haven't really done much on this branch of the family for several years. I would be very happy to exchange information with you. What part of Canada are you from? I live in frozen Ontario, near Ottawa. Pauline Anderson On 24/01/2011 10:55 AM, [email protected] wrote: > Hello > > I am new to this list, joining you from Canada.
