Harvey, There are some facts and photos of the tiny church at Ham to be found here http://www.combestnicholas.org.uk/ if you then click on <Parish Church> and then <Ham Church>. The building, with seating for about 35, was converted from a barn and has been in use since about 1900 to serve the small community of farmers at Ham, which is within the parish of Combe St Nicholas but is some 2 miles distant from the village centre. There still being no electricity on the site nowadays services are held only in the summer months. The marriage of your William FOWLER, in 1856, would I think have been in the Parish Church of St.Andrews (Combe St Nicholas) and indeed the record is to be found in the parish records, the date being 1st November, as you say. In the first census after the marriage (1861) the couple are found living at Ham, with 4-year-old daughter Elizabeth. In my studies of Combe St Nicholas folks I've found your William FOWLER was baptised at Combe on 13 Dec 1835; his parents were Henry (1762-1848) and Sarah nee GOFF (1798-1845) who was Henry's second wife. William was the 4th of five children of this marriage, and he had six half-siblings from Henry's first marriage. I see you made an earlier enquiry about this very family almost exactly 5 years ago: was my reply - http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/ENG-SOMERSET/2006-01/113709893 3 - helpful on that occasion?
