BUT there may be a problem. One list I posted a query to received two replies but I didn't see either of them. I found them via the archives. One was posted within a few hours of my post. -- Charani (UK) OPC for Walton, Ashcott, Shapwick, Greinton and Clutton, SOM http://wsom-opc.org.uk
Dear Somerset Folk, Our ancestors were Jennings, almost all farming in and around Pitcombe. My Great-Grandmother was Mary Jennings (bn 1848), daughter of (Thomas) Henry Jennings and Jane Cock. Mary married Benjamin John Jeffery from Chetnole in Pitcombe and they left Somerset for Dorset, then Leicester, then finally Worcestershire. Henry Jennings was the son of Francis Jennings and Mary Parham. I have a lot about this line - I know Henry married 3 times, losing his first 2 wives when they were young. I don't know very much about Jane Cock's family. Her parents, William and Mary were farming at Honeywick farm, Castle Cary, when Jane married Henry in 1846, but that's about it. Would like to fill in some gaps. Hopefully, Liz Elizabeth Lane. Goring-by-Sea, West Sussex. liz.13lane@gmail.com --- This email is free from viruses and malware because avast! Hi Martin and thanks for this, am I right in thinking this is the oldest survivint B Lydeard register , not the oldest register of all parishes ? Morning all, www.wsom.org.uk has just been updated with Bishops Lydeard Marriages and Burials also now back to 1674. As that is the start of the oldest Register that the Somerset Heritage Centre has, there wont be any earlier! I'm now working on more recent Burials at BL, coming forward, currently at 1790. Hi, added to which the website achurchnearyou.org seems to indicate that the church at Charlinch is now deconsecrated and the parish is absorbed into Spaxton . That seems to be borne out by his being buried at Molsham Hall which is apparently in Chelmsford, Essex. Given Sir Robert's connections to London, I think that is the more likely place. There are several references on Google to Sir Robert being buried at "Molsham Hall, St. Mary's Church, Charlinch" but they seem to come from uploaded from private research and to be copied from one another. The burial place appears to be an amalgamation of two places: "Molsham Hall" and "St. Mary's Church, Charlinch". The Hall wouldn't be in the church or its grounds although there might be or have been a church dedicated to St Mary in the grounds of the Hall or chapel in the Hall itself. -- Charani (UK) OPC for Walton, Ashcott, Shapwick, Greinton and Clutton, SOM http://wsom-opc.org.uk
