    3. Hi Wendy A search of the National Newspaper Archive brings up.................. Taunton Courier, and Western Advertiser , Western Daily Press , Gloucester Journal , Western Times , Exeter and Plymouth Gazette. A full search of all newspapers does not bring up any hits for "Ralph Brompton" in 1925 and there are no Brompton deaths in the family notices that year. There is a Ralph Brompton who dies in 26 Sep 1841 age 79 in the Lincoln Union Cheers Howard LAVER #3175 -----Original Message----- From: WLawday via Sent: Wednesday, September 17, 2014 6:09 PM To: eng-somerset@rootsweb.com Subject: [ENG-SOM] OLD NEWSPAPERS Can anyone advise any newspapers which might contain obituaries for the Milverton area 1925? 3. Warren, You say that you're new to this list, which makes it sound like you've just discovered your Somerset Roots. Is this correct? I suspect you have a whole lot of data on the families after arrival in New South Wales. Were they actually free settlers who paid their own way, or Assisted Immigrants? Have you found shipping records? I'd like to see you list each family with ages as they arrived. Then we have a starting point for working backwards. This will cast a wider net. Consider the vast number of people who aren't related but might like to help If you're just looking for other people's trees, try Ancestry or their associate site Mundia which is free upon registering. Also try Rootsweb Family Trees. As you seem to be looking mainly pre 1837, you're after Parish records. Try the Archer Software site found via Google and look what records are available for Huish Episcopi. Then click on each batch number and search by surname. Peter in Sydney

    3. Hi , you probably have the 1841 census for Huish Episcopi which shows an Elizabeth Caswell, 70, tailoress, Y, Lucy Diggins, 50, labourer, Y, Levi Diggins, 12, shoemaker`s appr , Y. Freereg has the baptism of Joseph Diggins, son of John and Lucy , labourer, at Langport All Saints, in 1817 , and he appears in the 1841 census at Ashcott. There is a Joseph George son of John and Mary Diggins, labourer, bapt Langport, 1820, then Latitia bapt 1823 also Langport, dau of John and Lucy, labourer. and Tryphena bapt 1826 dau of John and Lucy, also Langport. I am guessing the John and Mary is possibly a mistranscription of Lucy.. And John and Lucy were married in 1810 in Langport. There is a burial of a Joseph Diggins aged 2 at HE in 1820 and a burial for "Lalsha" aged 5 also HE in 1828. That is from one source and you already have familysearch.org . life is hard . soften it with a cat \\\=^..^=/// ----- Original Message ----- From: "Warren Diggins via" <eng-somerset@rootsweb.com> To: <pbo08596@bigpond.net.au>; <eng-somerset@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, July 26, 2014 7:50 AM Subject: Re: [ENG-SOM] [ENG-SOMERSET] New Lister Surnames: DIGGINS LAVER LANCASTER SAWTELL > > > Hi Peter, > > Thanks for your reply. 3. Keith, It helps if you include name date and location in subject line. It's also important to convey where you've looked and any peculiarities you might have found in things like census records. I couldn't find a marriage for Thomas Creed and Elizabeth around 1815 - 1825. Usually this would be in bride's home parish in Wales. But I did find this submitted tree on Family Search https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.2.1/3MHY-KY6 You can never be sure of accuracy in other people's family trees, so use them as a guide and check out fully. The tree has parents for Thomas and suggests daughter Elizabeth married John Wallwork. After Elizabeth's death in 1856, in Birmingham, it shows John married an Ellen Creed, who could be a sister or cousin to Elizabeth. It needs to be checked with FreeBMD. I couldn't find Thomas in 1841 census to check any children. Where was he, and how was his name transcribed? Did he have a daughter Ellen? I notice he moved about from Somerset, to Derby and Worcestershire. Hope this helps, Peter PS!! I doubt Elizabeth was your grandfather. And I think you're missing a couple of greats

    3. Bev, FreeBMD has hundreds of possibilities for William Withers but luckily only on Julia Beatrice CARP born Mar 1908 in Wells. She looks to be the youngest of three children, but I'd prefer you check for family in 1911 census. The easiest way to sort out all the possibilities for William Withers would be to buy the 1933 marriage certificate, which should show his father. But first you might ask your friend, They may already have some certificates or other evidence that will give names of what look to be their grandparents or great grandparents. The couple appear on an Ancestry tree, which suggest a match for William in Mar 1910 in Sevenoaks, Kent. Again, a simple look up of 1911 census should find him with parents. Peter
