    3. FAO Rob Flynn, How weird, I have just this day finished transcribing the Baptismal records for North Petherton from 1813-1837. I can honestly say I have not come across the name Pinkstone at all. But as the transcriptions I have done only cover the Church of England registers and your ancestor was a Congregational Minister, so it would be highly unlikely that any details would be included in the records I am transcribing. Here is a site for the village which has different information including my transcriptions so far. http://www.nthpetherton.co.uk/ Regards Mark James FreeREG SOM Coord and North Petherton OPC -----Original Message----- From: eng-somerset-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:eng-somerset-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Rob Flynn Sent: 10 April 2008 13:59 To: ENG-SOMERSET@rootsweb.com Subject: [ENG-SOM] Pinkstone family from North Petherton, somerset Hello all, I am a new member to this list. I am hoping to get some leads or information on one line of my ancestors who migrated to South Australia from North Petherton in Somerset. I live in New South Wales, Australia and am so unfamiliar with the geography of England that I had to search a map to fin North Petherton! My ancestor was Rev George PINKSTONE who was a Congregational Minister in North Petherton. He was born about 1803. I also know that he had only one brother whose name was William PINKSTONE and who died at his residence in Nottinghill, London on 1 December 1863 aged 69. My ancestor George migrated to Adelaide South Australia aboard the Ship Royal Sovereign which sailed from Plymouth on 17 February 1849. George PINKSTONE brought his wife (Helen, I think) and his seven children including my great, great, grandfather Edmund PINKSTONE. I would love to learn more about this PINKSTONE family and their life in North Petherton. Has anyone been researching them or come across them? Any advice on how from this distance I might research George's time as Minister of the Congregational Church? Any thoughts or advice would be very welcome. 2. Margaret Lawrence
    3. Hello Debbie, I don't know much about them, but there were certainly quarries in Street. Quarry Road in Street isn't far from the border with Walton and in that area of Street a few years ago there was a big Radon gas scare. Radon gas is a sort of by product of the Blue Lias stone which was quarried. There were also quarries in Somerton and Long Sutton, but those were probably too far away for Walton folk to travel back in 1841. Lots and lots of men are stone cutters (as opposed to only a few in other townships/villages). Was there a quarry in the area? At the time of her marriage she was 26 so she would have been born around 1866. Alfred re-married in 1897 so I presume that Amorah had died within that 5 year period but I don't know and Freecen hasn't come up with anything. Thank you for your suggestion. 3. Hi Pat, unfortunately, we do not know where our people were living... We know that the Clutterbuck connection was from Cornwall, with a connection in Cadbury. The Kneebone connection also from Truro in Cornwall Vaughan has me stumped: George Vaughan was a military man, and Frances Nicholls, daughter of Frances WILKINSON and John NICHOLLS was underage. I will make contact with other family researchers, and ask pertinent questions Best wishes On 09/04/2008, Pat Hase <pat@pathase.demon.co.uk> wrote: > > Because Wells was an important City in Somerset many people seemed to > gravitate there to get married. 3. Thanks Debbie, It might be useful to look outside Wedmore for my DYER and NICHOLS/NICHOLLS families. The Whitney Hundred does have a border the Bempstone Hundred so is a logical place to look. At the moment I'm interested in occurrences before the 1841 census. Greinton is not that far as the crow flies but with a range of hills (not insurmountable!) between it and Wedmore. 3. Good morning, Debbie, Actually, I am following a Thomas Hucker, abt 1690, bur 1725 in Middlezoy. He married Joane Clark, Middlezoy, on 29 Apr. 1712. Though I can find no burial record, Joane allegedly died in 1720 and Thomas allegedly married a Mary Quarl of North Petherton on 21 Nov. 1721. I am trying to find the branch that links me to my 4G grandparents, Thomas Hucker, abt 1750, bur 1824, Middlezoy and his wife, Susannah Pounsford, abt 1750, bur 1830, Middlezoy. I have two Hucker branches on my family tree which is making my research very difficult. So, I am writing to thank you for your offer to help and I will keep your e-mail in the event I should need 19th century research.
