Seems the letter I sent before I have the wrong EMMA who married William Henry PARKIN I have told on good authority that she was Emma HARTLEY Born in 1844 Yeovil Somerset Can anyone help me with a christening or parents names? Please Jill in South Australia
Good morning I would like to know if any one is connected to the BURGE family of YEOVIL and can see it any of the following is familiar? William Henry PARKIN Born: 1834 - 1838 Exeter Devonshire Married Emma Mary ? could be BURGE She was born in 1842 - 1844 Yeovil Somerset Searching for MY - Emma Mary ? born according to the census 1901 census = born 1844 Yeovil Somerset [ age 57 years] 1891 census = missing not with her family on the night of the census still trying to find her [husband William not a widow? and as you can see she is in the 1901 census] 1881 census = born 1843 Yeovil Somerset age 38 years] 1871 census = born 1842 Yeovil Somerset [age 29 years] 1861 census = appears to have gone to Canada for a few years 1851 census ? 1841 census ? I have two marriages now, one could be MY - Emma M. or Emma Mary [I would send for these but at $38 each I will like to be sure first] Emma BURGE = married a William PARKIN in September 1864 at Barnstable, Devon or Emma CRACKNELL = married a William PARKIN in April 1860 at Dunmow, Essex [this one seems unlikely] Can anyone set me on the correct family twig ? Is Emma BURGE my Emma? Searching for MY - William Henry PARKIN born according to the census 1901 census = born 1838 Exeter [ age 63 years] 1891 census = born 1835 Exeter [age 56 years] 1881 census = born 1835 Exeter [age 46 years] 1871 census = born 1834 Exeter [age 47 years] 1861 census = appears to have gone to Canada for a few years 1851 census ? 1841 census? Thank you in anticipation Jill - South Australia

What an interesting man! I googled Bilbrook Lodge and it looks as if its still there - a Dr Currie applied for planning permission for a new stable block in 2000. I'm going to be staying in Bilbrook in June, so I'll try and take you a photo of it if you'd like? It occurs to me Peter that if he lived in Bilbrook he was on the main road and not far from Carhampton, so he could have been buried at St John the Baptist in Carhampton. I'll look there if I can't find him at Old Cleeve. There ia a William Goodman, born in Petherton,Somerset about 1839 and appearing in the 1841, 1851 and 1861 census, nothing later. A William Goodman, born in Bradford,Wiltshire about the same period, only shows up from 1871 to 1901. Can someone sort this out for me please? There's an example for 99 years (although outside Somerset) at http://genuki.cs.ncl.ac.uk/DEV/SouthTawton/JamesMallett1710.html I'm not clear how the 99 years would work as if James were to nominate the third name at the time they would be very unlikely to be alive 99 years later. Perhaps he could nominate the third name later in life ? . At the time of the original agreement James didn't have any sons although there were later. I am researching the surname HICKS from Keynsham in Somerset. Thomas Holland Hicks was born in 1837. He married Anna Stinchcombe in 1868 in Bristol. They had 5 children, the third one being HELENA GERTRUDE HICKS, born about 1873 in Keynsham. Her family later moved to Hartley Wintney in Hampshire. Helena married JOHN SYLVESTER (although I think he changed his name from John Catt) in 1901. Does anyone have any information on this? Christine
