Dear Listers, Please will some kind Lister with access to the Parish records of St Augustine of Hippo, Clutton, Holy Trinity, High Littleton and closeby parishes, help me with adding to and amending the details of two newly-discovered generations of my Purnell family ? If possible I would like the full dates and places for the events indicated. Robert PURNELL baptised 1635, buried 1712 , married (when and where ?) Elizabeth ............... (?). Parish of all these events unknown. They had 5 children - Mary, John, Isaac, Sarah and Joseph, but only for one of them have I got the date and place of baptism, and this was Isaac Purnell, who was baptised at Holy Trinity, High Littleton in 1661. Isaac Purnell bap 1661 married Christian .............(?) but again the place and date of their marriage is unknown. They went on to have four children - Robert Purnell, baptised 1685, Joseph Purnell baptised,Clutton, 1690, Betty Purnell, baptised 1694 and Mary Purnell, baptised 1698.. Of these, I only know that Robert Purnell, baptised 1685 married a Jane Peare in 1706 (Place and date unknown) and went on to have eight children; while his brother Joseph Purnell was baptised 1690 at Holy Trinity, High Littleton, and went on to marry Sarah ........... (Place and Date not known), and went on to have seven children. Anyone who can add to, or correct, any of the information in the above rather incomplete account will have my deepest gratitude. Yours Very Sincerely, Paul Newbury.

The High Littleton CMBs are available online at: http://www.highlittletonhistory.org.uk/church.html For Clutton, see: http://www.geocities.com/heartland/lane/8397/Clutton.htm > They went on to have four children - Robert Purnell, baptised 1685, > Joseph Purnell baptised,Clutton, 1690, Betty Purnell, baptised > 1694 and Mary Purnell, baptised 1698.. > Of these, I only know that Robert Purnell, baptised 1685 married a > Jane Peare in 1706 (Place and date unknown) and went on to have > eight children; while his brother Joseph Purnell was baptised 1690 > at Holy Trinity, High Littleton, and went on to marry Sarah > ........... I guestimated his marriage to Sarah as being around 1715, but with no place. I have 9 children for them: Betty b 1718 Mary b 1719 Anne b 1721 Joseph b 1722 Sarah b c1723 d 1727 Isaac b 1725 d 1742 Abraham b 1727 d 1812 Sarah b 1730 William b 1734 I've transcribed all the PURNELLs in Clutton and posted them up on the Bristol & Somerset list. This was in November and December 2006. Not all of them were/are on the geocities site I mentioned above. If you have a look at the archives for B+S you'll find them all there, clearly listed as PURNELL. -- Charani (UK) OPC for Walton, SOM http://wsom-opc.org.uk

It all depends on whether or not you want people to help you. The easier you make it for them to read your requests, the more likely you are to get assistance. Since my arthritic fingers no longer hit the keys that I expect them to I have employed a couple of things to help make sure my emails are readable to others and convey the meaning I want. I have the spell checker connected to all outgoing emails. I read through what I have written before I send it. I think this helps greatly when asking others for help with a particular family or place. Di Crystal Mundaring Perth, Western Australia

Val, you're by no means the only one who does this, and I don't know whether other listers agree - perhaps I'm just a grumpy old woman! - but I have to work harder to make sense of text that has no capitals where appropriate, and little punctuation; names of people and places, as well as the actual question, simply disappear. Val - Please don't be discouraged. I can't help you but I do hope someone else on the List can. Andrea - sorry, but I don't agree with you. I know it takes a bit more time to decipher a message with no punctuation, but spare a thought for the person writing it. We can't all be professional typists, and the "pick and peck" brigade should be congratulated on making the effort.
