Hello Pat > Thank you so much for the information forwarded to me regarding my Watkins family. I am sure this Margaret is probably the right one as she would have been 59 in 1916. I was told she died earlier but that probably was wrong. I will certainly let you know when I am going to be in Weston Super Mare - probably some time in April next year. trip plans not finalized yet, since I would like to visit the house and the cemetary. I'll look in ancestry to see if I can find the marriage of Ethel. Many thanks. This certainly is more information than I had before. > Carole > >

Hi Carole, Wilfrid Edwin WATKIN lived at Silverton, 29 Brean Down Avenue in Weston-super-Mare, a house which is still in existence. There is a grave in Weston-super-Mare Cemetery with the following inscription. "Of your charity pray for the soul of Margaret, beloved wife of Wilfred Edwin WATKIN, F.R.C.S. of Weston-super-Mare, who died July 18th 1916 ------ (remainder illegible)." In the Burial Register of the Cemetery it gives her burial as 24th July 1916 in Grave Tu 1869, aged 59 The Plot Tu denotes that the ground was unconsecrated which means that she was most probably non-conformist I realise that this isn't the Margaret you asked about but there doesn't appear to be another Margaret WATKIN in the cemetery Freebmd shows a possible marriage for Ethel in 1909 - copies of the local parish registers are in the local library Marriages Sep 1909 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ BROWNE Frank Charles Axbridge <javascript:golink("/cgi/districts.pl?r=120962562&d=bmd_1208863479")> 5c 987 <javascript:gopage(1909,3,2,'5c','987',0)> <javascript:golink("/cgi/information.pl?r=120962562&d=bmd_1208863479")> WATKIN Ethel Axbridge <javascript:golink("/cgi/districts.pl?r=121083818&d=bmd_1208863479")> 5c 987 <javascript:gopage(1909,3,2,'5c','987',0)> The Weston-super-Mare Family History would be delighted to meet you when you visit next year and can help with local records. There is a Margaret Watkins death recorded in AXBRIDGE Registration District in 1916. GRO Reference 5c 486. She was said to be age 59. (Weston Super Mare was in this Registration District until 1936) No trace of the family on the 1891 Census. Edith apparently born Dreden, so may be in Germany at that time. But you do show Walter Mountstevens on your tree. He was born about 1850 in, I believe, Dunster, Somerset, although the census returns suggest it was Bridgwater, Somerset. You have his mother named as Emma born in Bridgwater about 1834. His father was, I think, JOHN MOUNTSTEVENS, born about 1833 in Weston Zoyland, Somerset. I am interested in the Mountstevens family because Walter and his wife Mary Ann Grandfield had a daughter, Viola, (born in Bristol about 1878) and this Viola married Ernest Hill who is on my family tree. I think they married in London. Best wishes. Dorothy Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. My name is Carole and I live in Canada. My interest in this group pertains to the surname of Watkins who lived in Weston Super Mare. My grandfather Wilfrid Bradley Watkins lived at 2 Atlantic Drive East (hope this is right - is sometimes hard to read the census) in 1901 with his mother Margaret Ann and sister Ethel before he immigrated to Canada. Am looking for death of Margaret Ann Watkins shortly I believe after 1901. My ggrandfather Wilfrid Edwin Watkins lived at Silverton, 29 Brean Town Ave. Weston Super Mare in 1927 (reading this from his brother's will so don't know if correct spelling). Am also looking for his death. Am also looking for a marriage of Ethel Watkins to someone I believe named Brown after 1901. Also am planing a visit to Weston Super Mare next year and wonder if there is somewhere to go to look up marriages and deaths. Any help would be appreciated. Carole Watkin
you don't sign off your email but I would guess that your name is not 'Moneypenny'? You can't be surprised that no one has helped you this far. There was a MILTON Richard H mothers name Ware registered Bridgwater.5c 603 q1 1920 but you would have to buy the birth certificate to get any more detail. If you pay for access to BMD indexes you can trawl through them page after page until you find births, marriages of deaths or your half or stepsiblings assuming they did actually marry. It is the only way I know how to do it (unless you can find someone to do it for you). I would suggest 192.com to get any further information on living people. I have not been able to find a birth or marriage for him in Wales or England. He was supposed to have married a Harriet Ann Davies and their first daughter,Mary Ann, was born in the Blackwood area in 1855 He was a railway labourer. When he died he was an iron mine worker and by then had a second daughter, Sophia Heritage. Both girls were in Kingston, Hereford, workhouse in 1861 with their mother's surname Davies. On leaving, both reverted to their father's name Heritage. Many Heritages are from the Evesham area where his daughter Mary Ann went to live. I found some Heritages in the Frome area and wondered if anyone knows of a William Heritage. He is not the mariner W.H. who married a Harriet Nurse in Somerset. Cannot find a marriage or death for Harriet Davies/Heritage that fits, either. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
