    1. [ENG-SOM] New lister HARDING Ilchester
    2. ken roberts
    3. Hello All I have just re-joined the list. I live in Stourbridge West Midlands. My interest in Somerset is the HARDING family of Ilchester. I have: George HARDING c.1799 b. Ilchester, married Ann WATTS b. 1797 (Ireland ?). dau Elizabeth c.1825 and son George c.1830 both of Ilchester. George married Mary Ann DYER c.1830 of Longload they had 6 children, Albert, Thomas Walter, Herbert, Ellen, George, and Ella Jane, The 1881 census shows Albert c.1854 in Cardiff married to Elizabeth DOWNING their son Ernest Albert 1879 was my grandfather, there were 9 other children. Sidney, Alfred, Francis, Percy, Charles, Thomas, Richard, Laura, Clifford, (I have a photo of one of them in WW1 uniform but who). I have the census details 1841 to 1851 of George c.1799 and Ann Watts to 1861 And Albert c.1854, census 1861 to 1901. I have a limited amount of information on the DYER's and DOWNING's, but am seeking to expand my knowledge of the HARDING's. Thomas Walter married Francis E. Herbert married Mary Ann Ellen married Harry HAYWARD ( I have been in contact with a descendant) George married Rosina. Has anyone a similar interest ? This is rather a long introductory for which I must apologise. regards ken

    3. G'day James A check of FreeBMD indicates that between September Q 1837 and December Quarte 1859 there were some 232 births in Someset with the surname DIBBLE. Have you checked any of those and maybe ordered a birth certificate of one of which you are sure. Birth certificates will usually proved the maiden name of the mother and this will give you a lead as to her identity. Hope this helps Ray Lewis Hazelmere Western Australia Western Australian Genealogical Society Member # 7692 Family Interests Listed at http://wags.org.au/mid/7692.htm James P Parsons wrote: > I have a George DIBBLE of West Bagborough,<snipped>

    1. [ENG-SOM] FRY family Batheaston
    2. Chris & Meegan Ferguson
    3. Hi there Trying for the family above - this time for Eliza's parents. Eliza Lewis nee Fry died just after her 4th child was born and I'm trying to find out a little more about her. Bath BMD website has some Fry deaths which may or may not be family and I wonder if someone can tell me where I might look next? Would it be possible to assume Eliza's parents would be abt 20 years old when she was born (abt 1810 as she was 28 yrs at death in 1838), that would make the ones I have possibilities Have checked Free BMD as well and have come up with the: 1 death in June q of Ann Fry, aged 51 at Batheaston sub-district 2 death in Mar q 1842 of James Fry, aged 51 at Batheaston 3 death in June q of a James Fry, Batheaston The ages and sub districts have come from Bath BMD which is a really interesting and helpful site, the quarters from Free BMD. There are also 3 James' in 1839/40 and the Bath BMD site has a James dying 1839 aged 81 - possibly another family member. Question - other than ordering the death certificates is there any way I can find out any more about these people? Using registers guess I could but these are post registration Any suggestions will be very gratefully listened to!! Cheers and thanks Meegan in sunny and cool Darwin, Australia

    1. [ENG-SOM] Jeremiah Hayes married 1803 Walcot St Swithins
    2. Sian Mackey
    3. Hi everyone, I'm new to this list, though I've been on other Rootsweb lists for some time. I'm in Bedfordshire, so popping over to Somerset isn't very easy. I'm pursuing my ggggrandfather Jeremiah Hayes. I know he and his wife Elizabeth were in Starcross, Devon in the early 1820s, and that his name appears on his son Arthur James Hayes' marriage certificate in 1845 along with his occupation which is given as "Steward", but very little else. The only marriage of a Jeremiah Hayes to an Elizabeth that I have been able to find within a plausible time frame took place in Walcot. On 14 Nov. 1803, Jeremiah Hayes married Elizabeth Broad at Walcot St Swithin's. Sadly, the record gives absolutely nothing else! Does anybody know anything about this couple? I can't find any baptisms under the name of Hayes in the years following this marriage in Walcot. Did they stay in the area? Were they even born in the area? The family clearly moved around quite a bit over the generations, as Arthur James, Jeremiah's son turns up in the 1841 census in the Forest of Dean living with a James Broad who might be his uncle...? However, I cannot find any trace of Jeremiah in any census, even though he would appear to have been still living in 1845 when his son married as he is not given as "deceased" on the marriage cert. Any crumbs of information would be very gratefully received! Regards, Sian.
