Paul, so sorry, that was an error on my part, Tamar didn't commit any crime, only her parents. Iv'e known Sue Osbourne for along time, her Merriot site has grown & grown. Are you interested or connected to the Eason/Swindley family ? have some notes on Tamar's husband George Swindley's family ? email lilacthreads@tiscali.co.uk will send them to you, Jean in Dorset
Hello Dennis Many thanks for the link to your family tree. What a marvellous piece of research, particularly all the given source notes & a super website. So often people have no proven source in their trees & everyone else copies them, mistakes & all! I had been looking for a Ruth Foxwell. None of the several trees on Ancestry had her. When I viewed the Croscombe PR film for the nth time I at last found her born 1778. All the other trees had her as Mary. Alas I can find no link with your Naish branch. I also have a White connection through a marriage in the Provis line but they are from Frome. Liz -- I am using the free version of SPAMfighter for private users. Into a well known search engine I put in the two words <montacute somerset> 2. This yielded millions of hits but on the front page the 7th one was "Montacute Somerset village parish ...", and when I clicked on this I got the http://www.ukvillages.co.uk/village/Montacute-Somerset website 3. On the front page there is a small map with a <click here for a larger map> caption 4. This yielded a map detailing an area 4Km square with Montacute at the centre 5. Two clicks of the <zoom out> option produced a map covering an area 15Km square, and ... 6. One click on the <shift centre of map Northwards> option yielded a map with Montacute at the southern edge and Charlton Adam and Keinton Mandeville near the top (North) of the map. Thus after the initial typing of two words <montacute somerset>, and a total of 6 clicks on the mouse, I had the answer: Montacute is about 11Km (7 miles) SSW of Charlton Adam. The enquiry took considerably less time that it's taken to type this reply. Isn't the internet wonderful! Pauline Bear in mind that ages were not that important in those days.? The Army would write whatever he told them; they sometimes got it right. It grows more interesting. As he was discharged in 1817 aged 48, that could make his birth around 1769. Now a few weeks ago I printed off all the deaths for Bendalls post 1837 from Bath BMD site from the area covering Bathwick, Walcot and Lyncombe& Widcombe, the areas my family were living in. There were 22 of them, 15 I tied down immediately to my family. Which left 7 unaccounted for. 3 men and five women. One of them was a John Bendall who died aged 78 in 1847. I was unable to find him in the 1841 census for the area, and wonder now if he was living in Hampshire. I think I shall have to send off for his death certificate, to see what information I can get from that. Many thanks again to all who offered ideas and help.
