They are available at Somerset Record Office only. They are not online, so it will mean either finding someone who is going to the record office and can take some time out of their own research to look the entry up for you or employing either an independent researcher or using the Record Office's own research service. I'm not familiar with the contents of the Wilton Gaol records but those of Ilchester contain the name, age, crime and sentence. Ilchester also has a descriptions book which, as the name suggests, gives a description of the offenders, ie height, build, hair and eye colour, any distinguishing marks together with any ability to read and/or write. Have a look at the Record Office's online catalogue: http://www.somerset.gov.uk/archives/ -- Charani (UK) OPC for Walton, SOM http://wsom-opc.org.uk

    3. That would depend very much on the terrain and the time of year. Australia is a diverse country with large stretches of normally dry flat-ish land; when it does rain some of it is completely impassable. In this part of England in 1780's the land is not flat, has no proper roads, is normally damp, has many streams and rivers to cross without proper bridges. Where there were roads they were messed up in wet weather by horses, carts and cattle/sheep drovers. On the other hand they would not have been eaten by crocodiles or bitten but spiders and would not have had to deal with snakes (I am tempted to say 'at least until they reached Bristol'). His birth was registered in the March quarter of 1920. His parents were Willie WILLS and Elizabeth FEAR, married in September quarter of 1911 in Bridgwater District. I believe this is the same Geoffrey Wills who married Emily Betty ENGLAND. I don't know the date of the marriage, or where it took place. Emily ENGLAND was living in Glastonbury so maybe they were married in Glastonbury. I have been told that Geoffrey was born in Butleigh, and that he is buried in Huntsworth. I was also told that he died during World War 2 when he fell into a canal during the blackout and drowned. If you can shed any light or give any information, I would be so grateful. I would particularly like to have Geoffrey's baptism date (Butleigh?), details of marriage to Emily England, obituary, notice in local paper of his death, burial record (Huntsworth?).
