    3. Hello, I wonder if anyone can help with some information, please. We have just received a death certificate for one of my husband's MATTOCK ancestors, showing that he died at POPLAR FARM in KINGSTON SEYMOUR. Robert Southwood Mattock, died aged 78 at this farm, and it seems that it was the home of his son, John Victor Mattock. Previous to this the last information we had about John Victor Mattock was of his service in the First World War. We would be very interested in any information about the farm, or indeed about either of these people. Many thanks, Maggie Mattock

She is probably Betty BARBER, born 13 June 1787, christened 22 July 1787 in The Old Meeting Presbyterian, Ilminster (parents John and Mary BARBER). I have seen many cases of Betty/Elizabeth used interchangeably in Ilminster records. Vivien

However did find the following which fits. 1812 Nailsea Baptisms Robert son of Robert and Sarah Davis born Minehead Somerset 24th of July 1794 publickly received in Church 11th of October having been previously baptised at Minehead as above Nailsea Holy Trinity Baptisms 1788 to 1812. The questions I have are - if his baptism was private, would I still be able to find his details in Minehead general records, and secondly why would he be baptised for a second time? The family must be well off or he had a patron as he was educated at Cambridge. Can anyone assist?

    3. Hi Sandra, There are four Herbert MILTONs of about the right age in the 1901 Census living in Somerset. None are residing in Bridgewater however. Brief details are: Herbert Milton born c1896 in Washford living at Old Cleeve Herbert Milton born c1884 in/living at Wellington Herbert G Milton born c1889 in Bath living in Twerton (can probably be discounted) Herbrt H Milton born c1893 in/living in Glastonbury To further complicate matters all but the last Herbert had fathers named Thomas (Herbert H's father was Frederick). Your best bet at this stage is to get the marriage certificate which will also show the father's occupation should his name happen to be Thomas. The father of the one born c1896 was a Farm Labourer, the second a Carpenter and the third an Art Cabinet Maker.
