    3. I am looking for one page from a typed transcription of the BT's for Baltonsborough - my copy of the page was destroyed. Before I reorder the film, I thought that I would ask whether anyone currently has the LDS film 908500 on loan at their local Family History Center? If so, I would appreciate hearing from you off line. Bob

    3. For your information the R.M. Attestation Forms have been filmed by the LDS - I currently have one out No. 1514438 ca 1842. If you go to the LDS site and through their Library Index type in this number it will lead you to others available. They are sequential by year and alphabetical for surname. Hope this helps. 3. G'day Carol & List I am not certain as to your experience with genealogy so please forgive me if I am trying to teach my grandmother to suck eggs. As a start have you looked for his RM records? The National Archives at Kew have the RM records but in an undigitised format. There is also an undigitised index. This would mean that you would have to visit but first of all you do know that his division is likely to be Woolwich so at least you have a start point. The National Archives website will lead you to the files fo attestation papers and service records for Royal Marines of this period. So, if you visit Kew you will have a place to start. Similarly, have you investigated the 1841 and 1851 Census transcriptions? In 1841 John would have been 14 and should have appeared on the 1841 Census. Of course, the 1841 Census doesn't give much information but should give his dwelling place. If he was enumerated in Someset he will be shown as born in county. On the 1851 Census he may well have already been in the RM but if he were not you will have a little more information about him. Hope this helps Ray Lewis Hazelmere Western Australia Noden wrote: > Hello, > > I'm new to the list <snipped>

    3. Carol National Archives have a record in their ADM series for a John KEETCH Royal Marine as well as a Henry KEETCH ADM 157/47/11 Folios 11-15. John Keetch, born Somerset. Attestation papers to serve in the Royal Marines at Plymouth 1847 (when aged 18). Discharged 1868 as Length of service. Transferred to Woolwich, 1857. 1847-1868 You have to take this with a pinch of salt as they would have asked him how old he was and would only have written down what he told them. You could email TNA and ask for a quote to copy the file to you but I am not familiar with RM records; Army records of the time would not have much family information. With the given names (John, James, Mary) also being very popular there is great scope for confusion here! But following on from Duncan's observation, perhaps this family was in Combe St Nicholas (3 miles from Chard) in 1841, living in Frog Lane: Ketch James 30 ag lab y Ketch Mary 40 y Ketch John 12 y Ketch Ann 10 y Ketch William 7 y Ketch Robert 3 y ... then in 1851, still in Frog Lane: Kitch James head m 42 ag lab Kitch Mary wife m 50 Kitch John son u 22 ag lab Kitch Robert son 14 ag lab Kitch Thomas son 8 If you think this family could be your interest please get back to me because I have further info on the mother Mary, nee Mallock. It would be advisable to obtain a birth certificate for one of the children of James and Sarah to verify the mother's maiden name. Strange things can happen in genealogical records - in fact there has been an entire book written about the errors in marriage registrations - and it can be dangerous to draw conclusions based on an index roughly fitting one's own assumptions about the facts. 3. HI List, I am hoping to find somebody researching these families who lived in the Taunton area from at least the 1820's. I have the Drew family back to RICHARD DREW born about 1788 North Curry according to census, he married ELIZABETH STUCKEY in St James Taunton 1811, and had children in Creech St Michael. Also JAMES HAWKINGS born about 1821 in Hillfarrance son of ISAAC HAWKINGS and SARAH CHORLEY. JAMES HAWKINGS married about 1848, according to GRO index could be either MARY ANN DUNN or MARY ANN WHITE, BUT in the census she is listed as SARAH and they are in Bishops Hull. James died pre 1871 census, most likely September quarter 1865. Any connection out there ? if so would love to hear from you as I am finding Somerset research much harder than other areas I have worked in. Thanks Daphne. New Zealand. Also looking for TAMES Taunton area 1820's MARY ANN WOOLCOTT about 1830 Taunton area, ROBERT SAVIDGE Ilminster early 1800's ALFRED CEARLEY Ilminster area married 1864, no sign in any later census
