Thank you. I just looked on the site and could find nothing. However, I did contact the site owner to see if he/she can help. Does anyone know The Red Lion pub in Draycott? I am wondering if Reg and his wife, Hazel Larder still visit. About 10 years ago Hazel used to work there. My father, Charles Pearce, now deceased, was a frequent visitor as he lived so close. Hazel also took care of him. I am trying to find Hazel and Reg to find out more about my father's death. I am in the USA so it makes it rather difficult. Hazel and Reg used to live close to Draycott but they moved a little further out and I don't know where they are.

Author: lindseythompson83 Surnames: Darby, White, Barnstable, Easton, Wells Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.england.som.general/12965/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am looking for the Darby families from Somerset, England who immigrated to Lake County, Illinois between the 1830s and 1870s. I know they are all connected, but I don't know yet all of the connections from Somerset, so if anyone can provide any information, I would really appreciate it. Family 1: Samuel (b. 1811) and Edward (b. 1808)Darby were, I'm fairly certain, brothers. The two immigrated from Somerset England to New York some time most likely in the 1830s. They lived in Tioga county for at least a short time in 1839, but may have been in other parts of the state, too. Edward was married to Harriet (b. 1820 England), but I don't know if they were married in England or New York. They had three children in New York (Henry, Thomas, and Elizabeth), and two in Lake County, Illinois (Mary and Ida). Samuel married Sarah (b 1824 NY), and they had three children in New York (Joseph, Richard, and Edward), and 6 in Lake County, Illinois (Laura Josephine, Josiah, Frank, Eugene, Emma, and Elmer). After they settled in Illinois around 1845, I believe they sent for others as more Darby families immigrated to the county from Somerset. Family 2: William Darby (b. abt 1781) m. Mary (b. abt 1791). They have John (b. 1811) , William (b. 1816), and Charles (b. 1830). They may have had other children who had moved out prior to the 1841 census, which had them living in Middlezoy. John married Sophia White (b. 1816) and they had Ann (b. 1837, m. Thomas Barnstable) and George (b. 1840, m. Mary). Charles married Elizabeth (b. 1832), and they had Henry, Mary, John, and Emma Jane. John and Charles' families immigrated to Lake County, Illinois. Charles and his family came over in 1869. Places in Somerset I know they had lived in include Middlezoy and Cassington. Family 3: John Darby (b. 1832 England) m. Emma (1834-Ohio). They had Filenia M. Darby around 1852 in Illinois. I only see them in the 1860 Lake County census. Family 4. George Darby (b. around 1830) married Harriet Wells in December 1885. She remarried in 1861. Though they could have divorced, he more likely died sometime between 1886 and early 1861. Family 5. William Darby (b 1829 England) m Margaret Easton in Illinois. They had Anna and Harley. In 1870, they had Richard Darby (b 1842 NY) living with them and helping on the farm. I'm not sure if this is a younger brother or a cousin. Any information anyone can give me on these families would be very much appreciated. Does anyone have access to the Winford records please. I have looked at Mary Mason's and Ian Sage's sites and they are not there. I have the details of a 1702 marriage but would like to see the actual entry and wondered if there was anyone that had access to them. My local LDS has reduced hours now and I can't get there for some time to order a film if there is one. Will check that out but thought I would ask via the list in the meantime. Thanks for any help. These are typical entries from that period, albeit from Walton: Joseph Bartlet and Grace Price of West Pennard Sept 21 1703 Thomas Cole and Elizabeth Everdel of Glaston [sic] Jan 10 1703/4 [sic] Richard Frampton and Sarah Chick Apr 18 1704 You won't get any more information than that unless the bride and/or groom or their fathers were local worthies, even then not always. There was no requirement for occupations, the fathers names or witnesses at that date and no one signed the register. It was just what the incumbent or parish clerk or whoever completed the register wrote. I won't be going to the record office again until at least September. In the meantime you can check out whether there is a film and it's number on www.familysearch.org and click on the link for the catalogue -- Charani (UK) OPC for Walton, SOM http://wsom-opc.org.uk

Hi there, I'm searching for information about Hannah LANGDON, daughter or possibly sister of John LANGDON. She married William LEVERSEDGE in 1764 at Hutton, Somerset. She died in 1807 in North Petherton and was buried in Hutton. I assume she was born in the 1730s or (more likely) in the 1740s. I didn't find any other LANGDONs in the Hutton parish registers, so I'm really struggling to work out where to look next. The only clue I have is that a John LANGDON was named as an executor in William LEVERSEDGE's will but died before 1794. I'm assuming that this John was either the father or a brother of Hannah. Is there anyone out there with LANGDONs who can give me clue? Cheers, Allan Murphy (Sydney, Australia)
8th Oct 1751 was the wedding day of John HASTE and Grace DAVIS. They were married in Enmore Parish Church, Somerset and I believe they were 4 x g grandparents of my husband. I haven't been able so far to find out anything about their parents. His branch of the family became HASE around 1819 or before - simply, I suspect, on pronunciation - Has anyone researched HASTE who might know more about this family? Thank you Pat

I have been looking at Henry Brain b. 1788 in Bruton to James Brain and Sarah Trent and notice that I have a big gap between him and his siblings. I have: William 1768 Susannah 1770 John 1771 Tabitha 1776-1779 and then a long gap before Henry 1788. Could somebody be kind enough to tell me if there were other children, or is Henry the son of a different James. With thanks, Marilyn

A map inside the church caught my eye and I would love to find out if it is possible to get a copy of it. The map shows for the year 1795 the various types of fields in the parish, e.g. "Farms at Rack Rent," "Leaseholds" and "Freeholds" and who held the land that year, and I was able to see several fields farmed by my 5x great great grandfather Henry Morris (who paid over 5 Pounds land tax that year as he farmed both freehold and leasehold fields). I have photocopies of "99-year" leases of land from the Lord of the Manor (the Mildmay family of Hazelgrove House) which give the names of the fields he had leased, and it would be really very interesting see just where they were located? (I tried to take some pictures of the map, but the results are not very satisfactory). Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
