    3. Thank you to Charani: following your reply I contacted the Coroner's office, whose contact details were found here http://www.n-somerset.gov.uk/Community/Births+deaths+marriages+and+life+even ts/Deaths/coroners.htm and was told that if I write to them, they will search their archives, and if successful they will inform me what charge will be made to supply a transcription. (There was no questioning of who I was or why I needed to know)! At this stage they wouldn't give me any idea of how big the fee might be!! (If it's sizeable I might be satisfied to get the date of the inquest and then do a newspaper search). And thank you to Tony: those links were interesting. 2. Martin Southwood
    3. Evening all, www.wsom.org.uk has just been updated with Taunton St. Mary Magdalene marriages 1813-1819; 1820 onwards is underway. Also, I must apologise that the link to Phillimores marriages up to 1812 only gave us up to 1727/8 in reality. After a few emails to BYU in Utah, we realised that the missing 1728 to 1812 portion was in another volume of Phillimore so needed a different link address. This has now been fixed and is working correctly. Cheers, Martin Southwood

They wouldn't (or shouldn't) give you any details but they might give you the date of the inquest. There's no J HAMILTON death registered in 1975 (as you probably already know) but there is one in 1977: John Finlay HAMILTON (DoB 2 Jan 1890 Mendip RD). I don't think it would be him though. It's his age rather than the year that doesn't really fit. 3. Michael A Genuki transcription has two possible Thomas HILL baptisms which may be of interest; Thomas Jennings HILL babt St John's Wellington 13 Apr 1789 mother Sarah, possibly "base born" Thomas Lockyer HILL babt St John's Wellington 17 Sep 1790 son of David/Elizabeth. No other details given. Middle names could be a useful clue if they occur in later generations. 2. Patrick Williams
    3. Hello again folks Thanks to an off list reply I managed to solve lat weeks mystery on the Luxton side so am trying again on the BATSON line. I have John BATSON born 1784 and baptised in Ashcott, in 1841 he is listed as a Publican with Sarah 43, William 22 Gunsmith, Charles 14 (My 2x Gr grandfather) and Alfred 12 all born in County. I have found Baptisms for Charles and Alfred at St Mary's Taunton but with the mother listed as Mary, from this I suspect that John had married Sarah after the death of Mary, but have yet to find the death or Marriage of Mary. Any help or suggestions welcome. Regards Patrick Williams

    3. Hi Michael, I was very interested to see your email. My ancestor was John HILL, George's brother, 1816-1898. He married Sarah ALWAY in 1838 and they had 6 children, one of whom was my G-grandmother, Ellen. She married Charles SLATTER and went to live in HEREFORD. I have photos of her. Like you, I wasn't able to get back further with Thomas. I haven't really done much on this branch of the family for several years. I would be very happy to exchange information with you. What part of Canada are you from? I live in frozen Ontario, near Ottawa. Pauline Anderson On 24/01/2011 10:55 AM, [email protected] wrote: > Hello > > I am new to this list, joining you from Canada. 2. Jon's FH
    3. Western Mail Thursday November 18,1926. No. 210. PROTEST BY BATH MAGISTRATE—An Abertillery Man Acquitted. A case heard on Wednesday by the Bath City magistrates, involving a grave charge against an Abertillery man named Ernest Arthur Albert NIXEY, who was eventually acquitted, was marked by a remarkable incident. NIXEY declared that at the time certain incidents occurred in the Royal Victoria Park he was in another part of the city. His wife and mother were in court to support his alibi. When the former was called to give evidence, the mother was ordered out of court. Alderman A. WILLS, a prominent magistrate and ex-mayor, at once rose from his place on the magisterial bench and made an indignant protest. " The police," he said, "have just ordered a witness out. They did not order their own witnesses out. I object strongly to that partiality and one-sidedness. Prisoner's mother has been ordered out. It is not fair." When the Chairman announced the acquittal of NIXEY, Alderman WILLS said he quite agreed it was a very proper case for the park-keepers to have brought forward.
