Afternoon all, www.wsom.org.uk has just been updated with Taunton St. Mary Mag Burials 1830-1839. At the moment I intend to be getting on with other things as FreeBMD has the relevant information rather than do another 10 years (1300 records in this recent effort!) but this may change. Cheers, Martin Southwood
Whilst at the Heritage Centre yesterday, I took the opportunity to ask about a new service they have there. The closed registers that were formerly held at various register offices around Somerset are now housed and conserved at the Heritage Centre. Unfortunately that doesn't mean there's public access to them, more's the pity BUT it is possible to order from there either in person (9GBP) or by phone or post (9.50 GBP). Whilst they prefer cash or a cheque, they can take plastic. There are forms held at the reception desk for personal visitors to order certs. Processing time is about 2 days although it is taking a little longer at them moment since the register offices had to close for two weeks prior to the move. They are still getting through the considerable backlog of orders that built up during the closure. The registers still open (post 2009) are still with the relevant register offices. -- Charani (UK) OPC for Walton, Greinton and Clutton, SOM Asst OPC for Ashcott and Shapwick, SOM http://wsom-opc.org.uk http://www.savethegurkhas.co.uk/

Hello List, I am new to the list and wonder if anyone can help. I have been researching Richard Wright GOODALL for some 11 years and have the following information. He married Elisheba BAZLEY on the 20th Sept 1827 then again on the 10th October 1827 in Okehampton, Devon. He was a sojoiner. They had a daugher Frances who is baptised on 6th August 1832 in Birmingham plus a daugher Mary and an un-named son. The family travel to New South Wales about 1840 ish, Richard is before the NSW courts for insolvency in March 1842 and again February 1857. Richard died in Maitland, NSW on 2nd February 1870, aged 62. His profession is a licensed surveyor. Also on his death certificate are the facts that he was born in Bath and that his father .....GOODALL was a banker. Given his age of 62 is 1879 he would have been born circa 1808 ish! Does anyone have access to any directories to see if GOODALL senior is resident in Bath in 1808 and is anyone else researching the family? Lesley Abraham. Isle of Wight.
Boy, Geoff, do I wish I could attend. Hi Robyn, This is probably a long shot, but in Pigot's Directory of Gloucestershire of 1830, there's an entry in the Bristol section for a William Morgan at St. Philip's Plain, who was a Plasterer/Tiler/Painter: http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/GLS/Bristol/JOSEPHtoRINGER.html Josephine -- Josephine Jeremiah www.ianandjo.dsl.pipex.com
Hello all, My name is Robyn Wright & I live in Rockhampton, Central Queensland Australia. I have for some time been trying to find the birth of my g x 3 grandfather William George Morgan (sometimes just George) . I have obtained all of the birth certificates of his children & his marriage certificate to Harriett Hinds, Harriett was from Fairfield in Kent. William & Harriett married after the birth of all the children in Sydney. On the children's birth certificates he kept giving a marriage time that is not correct & the marriage in Victoria is just leading you away from the fact that they were not married, I suspect he had something to hide, possibly already married! The marriage certificate gives his parents as William Morgan, painter, & mother as Maria Hill. I have never been able to find his birth or the marriage either & as he gives his birth as Bristol Somersetshire, I am hoping that somebody may have come across his birth & his parent's marriage. His age varies on the certificates & gives him as being born from 1813 to 1826. He is a difficult fellow, but I guess having a name like William Morgan does not help! Here is a list of the children: Harriett Maria, 1857. William, 1859. John F, 1861. Mary Ann, 1863. Frederick George, 1866. Possibly also an Arthur. William died 1871 & his age given by his Brother in Law is 58 years in Redfern Sydney N.S.W. Any help greatly appreciated. Kind regards, Robyn
>From The Times, Wednesday, Sept 16, 1795; pg.3; Issue 3408; col D BRISTOL, Sept. 12. On Thursday the body of Mr. CAMPBELL , a gentleman of great respectability, who resided in Clarence-place, in this City, was found at the bottom of the Rocks on the Leigh side of the river Avon, mangled and bruised in so dreadful a manner as to render it a most shocking spectacle. This unfortunate Gentleman excelled in an eminent degree in the art of drawing, and had left his house about ten o'clock on Monday morning last, with a design, it is believed, of taking off some of the beautiful views of the river Avon, and St. Vincent's Rocks, near the Hotwells; in attempting this from some dangerous part of the Rocks, it is supposed, either that the ground gave way, or his feet slipped, when falling down the dangerous precipice, the violent contusions he received proved fatal to him.

Hello from NZ I have a connection to the TROTMAN name from Frome in Somerset. Sophia TROTMAN married James MOON (1807 Walcot Somerset) and they had 4 children; Edward (b c 1808); John (b c 1809); Sophia (b c 1812) and Esther (b c 1814), all in Frome. Sophia (mother) died in 1817 and James remarried. Some of the family migrated to York, Ontario in 1832. James died in Reach, Ontario. Is anyone connected to this MOON family please? I would love to be able to fill in another branch of my TROTMAN family tree. There is quite a bit about James's second family in "World Connect" but no mention of this family. Here's hoping; TIA Mike
