    1. [ENG-SOM] New member; Martin at Cadbury and Barrow
    2. helen sim
    3. Hello, I am looking for Martins around Barrow and Cadbury, especially the family of John Martin. He was christened at South Barrow in 1679, his father was also John and John chr 1679 married Joan Day in 1699 at North Cadbury. John and Joan had a son John christened 1700 at North Cadbury; this John had children including Peter christened 1720, Mary christened 1723 and Elias christened 1727; all at North Cadbury no mother named , and Matthew christened 1728 at North Barrow (his mother was Ann). I am descended from Matthew who married Elizabeth Garland 1755 at North Barrow. Is anyone else researching this family especially the families of Peter, Mary, Elias and Matthew? cheers Helen

    1. Re: [ENG-SOM] OSMONDs in Tintinhull, Somerset
    2. Hi again... My apologies, have missed an entire paragraph in the original message below. Henry and Sarah listed in first paragraph emigrated, but their parents were Henry and Anne Osmond, and Charles and Mary Osmond respectively. Its these fathers that I believe are brothers to my John. Also, think I found Sarah in FamilySearch in 1841 census in Wellington, Somerset. Still looking for help... Hi, Does anyone have details of OSMOND surname in Tintinhull. My family is John and Martha Osmond, and 4 of their children emigrated to Australia. There is also a Henry Osmond who emigrated to Australia with parents Henry and Anne from Tintinhull. There is also a Sarah Osmond who emigrated Single at 24 yrs of age to Australia, daughter of Charles and Mary Osmond. My first suspicion is that John, Henry and Charles should be brothers. On a parish records site I found an Abner and Mary Osmond having kids around 1780 - 1800, and these kids would be old enough to be the 3 boys above, yet I can only find a John and I cannot confirm anything. Can anyone help? Thanks, Steve Allen. This email (including any attachments) is confidential and intended for the named recipient(s) only. 1. [ENG-SOM] OSBOURNE , WEBB and WILLIAMS ( 1807 )
    2. >From Jackson's Oxford Journal, Saturday, November 14, 1807; Issue 2846. OFFENCE. - During the rejoicings on Thursday evening last, the Anniversary of the Gunpowder Plot, the following dreadful occurrence took place in the city of Bristol. Sarah OSBOURNE , a fine girl, about 14 years of age, the niece of Mr. WEBB , Cooper, of Sims's Alley, was standing at a shop in the Horse Fair, when some person discharged a musket behind the watch house, on the opposite side of the way, and shot her through the head. The ball penetrated the windows of the house opposite to which she stood, broke a picture to pieces which hung against the wall, and rebounded. She expired at ten o'clock on Friday morning. On Saturday a Coroner's inquest was held on the body, when Mr. WILLIAMS stated, that he saw two men about 20 yards from the watch house, one of whom carried a gun, and the other a pistol; that the person who carried the gun was a tall man, with a soldier's great coat. Witness saw him present the gun towards the watch house, and fire it off, but thinks it impossible he saw the girl at the time, or that he had an intention of killing any body. Several other witnesses confirmed this testimony. The Jury returned a verdict of - Manslaughter against some person or persons unknown.

    3. Carol. In 1851 gold was discovered in Victoria Australia and there are several cases of the husband coming out to make his fortune and leaving wife to come out later . Here we have several scenarios: 1. He died on the goldfields and many did from thirst and was known only as George or died and never found or just buried unknown . Victoria Australia then was just bush and the 100kms to the goldfields from Melbourne could take up to a month . 2. He met someone else here 3. Was he illiterate and couldn`t write home 4. She felt lonely and Peter took advantage and as she could not prove George was dead for 7 years , they decided to forget about marriage .It seems Peter was an honourable man . 2. Dear Listers, I am trying to ascertain who married who re. HARDACRE / CULLEN. I have William HARDACRE married Mary CULLEN. I then have Samuel HARDACRE married Sarah CULLEN - 4 June 1768 at South Brent ( Brent Knoll ) Somerset. I have now found children Christened at South Brent to Samuel HARDACRE & Mary. Sarah 1769 - Anthony 1772 - Nancy 1775. Is anyone able to check the Parish Records for me please to try and sort out this dilemma. There is also a possibility that a marriage may have taken place at Huntspill. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Kind regards, Judy Queensland, Australia.

    3. As far as I can tell, the Grade 11 listed building "Baker's Farmhouse" (ID 264412) is situated on Middle Street, East Lambrook. So far I have not been able to find any details other than a description of the aspects of the building which caused it to be listed, which is not surprising, but can any one tell me if there are local history publications which might identify how and when it gained this name, or point me in the right direction to find out which of the many BAKER families lived there, and when? Thanks Robert SLATER South Australia

    3. Hi Peter I think previous listers have made lots of useful suggestions. I have a certificate for a death in 1951 which is very similar. Cause of death was "Asphyxia by Carbon Monoxide through inhalation of coal gas; Misadventure." Mary died between 5 pm Twentieth January 1951 and 11 am Twenty second January 1951, in Crewkerne, aged 78. This was midwinter, and she was old. But don't I remember reading that all these deaths from coal gas led to a reform that insisted that the gas was given a smell?? Perhaps someone will know when that happened. Bev Now you are inspiring me to look for a newspaper account or a copy of the coroner's inquiry. > > -----Original Message----- > From: Peter Collins > Sent: Saturday, May 21, 2011 1:29 PM > To: [email protected] > Subject: Re: [ENG-SOM] Mysterious Double Death - Crewkerne/Misterton > (BURT) > >
