    1. Re: [ENG-SOM] A family brick wall. Florrie GERRISH.
    2. Ian Logan
    3. Hello Mike Both the FamilySearch.org and Ancestry databases have a Fanny Rebecca GERRISH baptised 14 Feb 1864 in Melksham, Wiltshire, England. Parents were John GERRISH and Mary. Appears to be a reliable extraction from parish registers. Could Floorie be Fanny ?? Two possible marriages - need more investigation. There are other possibilities in Wiltshire.: John GERRISH m Mary Hobbs COOPER 1864 St James, Bristol. John Henry GERRISH m Mary SHORT 3 May 1864 St Peter, Bristol. 3. A friend who has lived in the vicinity of Dulverton all of his life tells me that there is no building he knows of called Dulverton Manor. We are assuming that they are using the expression as in Lord of the Manor as a piece of land, an area. The 'seat' would likely have been Pixton owned by the Carnarvons (relatives of the Carnarvon involved in Tutankhamon). The area around was developed, a railway brought in and a hotel built at Brushford to deliver their friends from London for shooting and hunting etc. The railway has gone now and the hotel converted into flats (Carnarvon Arms). New Invention seems to have been two houses at one time probably knocked into one. It cannot be seen from the road but the suggestion is to walk up from Marsh Bridge to get a look at it. We cannot offer a suggestion as to where the name came from but we have found a relative of someone who lived there once and will get back to you with anything we find. 1. Re: [ENG-SOM] ACLAND, WEST, BOUCHER, ----------DYER?
    2. Hello, I participate with a study of an uncommon Y-Haplogroup on FamilyTreeDNA. There is a theory that the several members of that "Superfamily a" may have a very early common ancestor in Somerset area. DYER is one those surnames; mine is another. I have a couple of relative recent listings for CRAGO. I do have known early roots , 17th century, in Cornwall, and possiblly Wales. My Y-Haplogroup is R1b1b2a1a1a. The short notation is: R-U198. I am thinking that my Haplogroup is actually Celtic/Gaelic in origin. Some variations of my surname are the these:CRUGYOW, CRAGO, CRAGOE, CRAIGO, CREGOW, CREGO, CREGOE, and maybe in some way this Celtic name from Ireland: Craggauowen Celtic Living History Museum, near Craggauowen Castle, Ireland. 3. Thank you Lorraine for the tip to try the archives for that "lost" map re Dulverton Manor. I did that and found several items of interest, including my thankyou to some kind person named Sue, who'd sent me a 1900 map reference....BUT, alas,in that thread was the thankyou only, not the message she'd sent me. I'm trying to find the location of a patch of land leased by the brothers ACLAND [Josh, Francis, and Baldwin], from one Humphrey Sydenham, in 1709. The plots of land were called New Invention and Camworthy. There was also in the archives an amusing to-and-fro of emails about the old legend of a highwayman, and suggestions the name New Invention may have come from the Industrial Revolution, with a lovely notion of the Spinning Jenny being superseded by the "gently revolving Margaret". Thanks again for those replies, way back in 2004. Can anyone help further please? Pam in Yack
