Dear All UD in this context normally means 'Urban District', in the same way that you will also see Atcham RD for Rural District. Urban and rural district councils were created by legislation in 1894 and earlier. However there were also predecessor bodies in various forms. What intrigues me is that this implies there was a Frankwell Urban District Council, separate to the Borough of Shrewsbury. Is that true? Some of the modern ones for Shrewsbury end in UD. Cheers Graham ______________________________
