In two emails Glenys wrote: s "Joseph Speak born 6/4/1821 parents Joseph Speak & Mary Holt." and also "Joseph Speak b 6/4/1821 Winstantow, I do not know his occupation or his parents but from what I have heard he was a farmer, where I no not, His father was killed c 1826-30, His mother remarried, again Unknown. Joseph jr, came to Australia in January of 1841, leaving from Liverpool, He was a Carpenter, That's all I know." Getting intriging this. Obviously Glenys you need to check below very carefully. Some Speak names are have Speaks spelling. Excuse me if you have already found these, but in view of your statement above, think it worth writing. Person Joseph Speak(s) married a Mary Rowland, 1820, and a Mary Jackson 1814, Acton Scott (very near Wistanstow), this souce does not say if either of these were a widow or not (possibly giving name change). Also a Joseph Speak married Hannah Mills in 1823 in Church Stretton. On igi, two Joseph Speake births C016042 for Wistanstow.with parents Joseph and Mary, and two burials there for infant Josephs there in 1819 and 1821 These dates would cover the two, so either a duplication of names there - very common this - or your Joseph born April 1821 one of the infants. Also on that batch number, person Joseph Speake(s) and mum Hannah, had four children, one being a Joseph christened 1831. Person Mary Speakes buried Wistanstow Sep 1821, and a Hannah Speaks marrried a Samuel Amies in 1835, and would seem to have given birth to children with surnames spelt at Amos, Amiss, Amies. (this was either Action Scott or Wistanstow, you will see from the IGI). Will save the old directories till later, as they are a bit cumbersome to look through. Trust not too confusing, Jo.
