Remember the old Jewish saying that goes similar to this: It's a wise person who knows who his father is! In one of my searches re. baptisms (probably Ellesmere), a lsingle lady sat in church with her baby who was going to be baptised, and she named a certain man as the father. A man of that name stood up in the church and exclaimed: "I am not the father of that child!" (This was written in the baptismal register).
