    3. Hi folks There has been an overwhelming response from listers wanting these two files. If anyone has not received their copies off-list by 30th, please let me know. I thought I might share with you this interesting recent research, though it does not necessarily equate to our lists, though it possibly could, depending upon who is researching what and where. My third cousin once removed, recently found a couple of years back and living in Canada asked me if I'd like to trace one of her genealogy research friend's family. Seemed a Thomas Roberts had emigrated from the UK to Australia about 1885. She had tried various links and found nothing. Fortunately, her Thomas was known to be a draper, and thus I found him, right age, etc. on a shipping list, then found him living in Carlton North, Melbourne, Victoria, in later days. Married, of course, you'd expect that. One child born and died in the same year. Then another child born 1897 and whoopee do, married, had children, and within 48 hours of the research I had found a living relative 80 years or so, right here in Melbourne 2006. Now that is something really spectacular. I've never before found a living relative for someone overseas in such a fast fashion. One has to be thankful for the directories, the electoral rolls, etc. which are in the State Library of Victoria. No census details are available because they were burnt each year as they were taken. Anyway, I considered that this person may not appreciate a telephone call from a male folk out of the blue so handed over all the info to the Canadian folk who are writing a letter as I speak. Once more, I hope that I have been in some small way instrumental in bringing a family, long lost, back together again. That's all that matters. Cheers Graham Melbourne Oz PS. The old family homes of the 1880s are still there, heritage protected, and totally restored. I went out and took some photos and was really amazed at walking through this heritage protected time-warp of the 1880s, nothing much changed, probably even the same old trees down the centre of the roads, still there after all this time. Was a bit scary I can tell you, because most of the other suburbs have been re-developed, but not this one. Totally full of old Victorian villas and totally unscathed by modern life. Dr. Who, eat your heart out.
