    3. Hi everyone I have just recently joined the group and am looking for anyone that might have some links or knowledge of this surname as stated in the subject line. I am trying to trace the name about the areas of Grinshill, Preston Gubbals, and Hadnell mainly, but there could be others that my research has not expanded to yet. My ancestor was a JOHN CANK who was from Grinshill and his wife was an ELIZABETH BROOKS from Hadnell. As far as I can follow at the moment, they had a family of eleven children and would be thrilled to make contact with anyone who is from any of these lines or has any persons with the CANK surname linked to their research. The eleven children of this CANK family were..... (1) - William (1831) (who is my great Grandfather) (2) - Elizabeth (1834) (know nothing of her yet) (3) - Sara (1836) (know nothing of her yet) (4) - John (1839) (know nothing of him yet) (5) - Ann (1840-1840) (6) - Ann (1842-1843) (7) - Mary (1844) (married John HATTON) (8) - Emma (1847) (know nothing of her yet) (9) - Thomas (1850 (married a Mary PRESCOTT) (10) - George (1852) (married someone called Mary Jane -surname unknown at the moment) (11) - Caroline (1855) (married William THATCHER) Anyone with any links or records that have this surname somewhere would be a real plus for me, as I am relatively housebound and so my computer is my main way of gaining any data to continue my findings. Looking forward to hearing from anyone that could be linked. Thankyou Bye for now Margaret Bauer ****************************** Margaret Bauer Queensland, Australia bauerm@tpg.com.au ******************************

    3. Hello Margaret in Australia, Is the Elizabeth Cank, widow born 1812 Hadnall, yours in the 1881? Just looking quickly at the Shropshire disk, not other counties, found a possible George born 1853, stonemason, but you may have ruled him out as only resident in a named parish, born Market Drayton think it said. What info do you have for the occupation of the male offspring of John and Elizabeth? If they were in a skilled trade, or shopkeeper or farmer, or similar, they may show up in directories under the trades section, which could lead to which parish they were living in at the time. If labs, ag labs, or us common mortals, no go. Then if in Shropshire, someone on this list may well be able to help. Did a quick Google, which gave me Clive to search for Cank surname, in addition to parishes stated by you. However these are other christian names. 1870 directory: Cank Samuel, mason, Clive. from google: from http://parishmouse.com/ Clive Cassey Shropshire Directory 1871 Cank Samuel, stone mason, quarry owner, builder, and contractor Another link was probably for a living CANK female in discus, (sport). Parish Mouse, above had The Register of Clive 1810 to 1812. 1811 May 5. George, s. of Samuel & Mary Cank, bap. undated: and a rootsweb connection may be worth a try if it does not bounce: Cank16001920don't know Dereksbu Shropshire. undated from a rootsweb list, dont know refers to migration Jo.

    1. [ENG-SHROP] KEAY - parish records help please
    2. Lee
    3. Hi everyone, I've just received a couple of certificates which prove that our ancestors are members of the KEAY family. I wonder if anone else if researching the KEAY family from Prees/Whixall? I have John KEAY born c1786 Prees and Sarah KEAY born c1781 Westbury with sons William, Richard and daugther Sarah according to census entries. No doubt there were other siblings - I've found a couple of possibles on the IGI named Eliza and Maria. I also found on the IGI the birth of a John Keay to Joseph Keay and Sarah in 1786 and also the marriage of a Joseph Keay to Sarah Davies in 1782. I've found William Keay's marriage to Dinah Ward and subsequent census entries. I've also found Richard's marriage to Emma Haycocks and census entries. Sarah is a mystery, she's shown as a widow on the 1861 census with her parents. There is also a grandson of John and Sarah mentioned on the 1841 and 1851 census - his name was also Richard born c1834. I've no idea who he belongs to. I'd be so grateful for any help with sorting out this family. Lee in Australia mlhaley@nor.com.au
