Hello I am new to this list and relatively new to family history in Shropshire, although I have been researching for a while in Yorks and Lancs. I am searching for a marriage which I believe may have taken place in Edgmond between c 1817 and 1824 between Charles SOLLOM and Mary (possibly nee JONES). I have been told that an index exists called the Gwynne index of marriages in Shropshire during this time period but is in private hands. I was given an address to write to but have received no response. I wonder if anyone has a more update address for the holder of this index than that posted on GENUKI or if anyone has access to the Edgmond PR's of that period. I contacted Shropshire Archives but they were unable to undertake a look up as they said it was unindexed. Charles and Mary Sollom later moved to Ashton under Lyne in Lancashire, where their children were born. I have been unable to uncover a marriage for them there. Hello Beverley The reason you didn't receive a reply is because Mr Gwynne died some months ago. Since then his marriage index and that of the late Maurice Lewis have both been donated to the Shropshire FHS. Both indexes have only existed in paper form up to now so it is now intended to computerise them so that they can be made available on CD-ROM. Unfortunately the indexes are not available to researchers until the computerisation is completed which is likely to be many months as it hasn't really got started yet.
