Hello all, I'm curious about the PROBERT family of Copthorne or Copthorn. The will of Thomas KYFFIN (d 1844), Land Surveyor of Park Issa, Oswestry (connected to my mysterious ROWLANDS/WILLIAMS family) includes these bequests: "to the said Charles Wilding my two pictures the one representing Abraham and Agar and the other Ahasuerus and Esther and also the two fancy portraits which I had from Copthorn" "To Thomas Newill of Welshpool my portrait of the late Mr Probert." "To my Goddaughter Charlotte Probert daughter of the said Mrs Holl One hundred pounds" Looking at the index of Powis Castle correspondence (Charles WILDING lived at theDairy there) held by the National Library of Wales, it appears that Thomas KYFFIN lived at Copthorn/e himself but was at Park Issa (Salop Road, Oswestry) from about 1825. This index also includes loads of correspondence from and to John PROBERT of Copthorn. The Powys government site at http://www.powys.gov.uk/index.php?id=975&L=0 also has this reference: M/Q/RA/42/F - Act: Articles of Agreement dated 7th May 1810 - 26th Dec 1814 Articles of Agreement between the Rt Hon. Edward Earl of Powys and John Probert of Copthorn, Salop (Lords of the Manor of Mochnant) and 18 others, (inc. Sir W W Wynn). Parish: Hirnant Lands Enclosed: Manor of Mochnant. Townships of Tre Fedw and Tre Lan. Map (1) and schedule. No scale indicated. Commissioner: Arthur Davies Surveyor: Thomas Kyffin As I have exactly zero chance of getting to Wales myself, I was wondering if anyone could enlighten us about the PROBERT family? They sound interesting! Many thanks, Loretta Melbourne, Australia
