Sheila, Have you considered the possibility that the first two children, born 1851/2 and 1853/4, might be by a first wife of Edward JONES? She then died and after his second marriage in Oct 1855 to Elizabeth LEWIS he had the third and fourth children, Elizabeth & William, for whom you can find births in 1857 and 1860. The first two children, Maurice and Eleanor, would therefore have a different mother's name and might explain why you can't find them. In a census there would be no indication that they were by different mothers since they were all sons/daughters of the same father. Just a suggestion, Diana
