I have been sent a photo which l am told was taken in the 1870s. The only writing on it is the photographers name Stanley Hurst Shrewsbury and Wrexham. l have looked at the 1871, 1881 and 1901 census and cant find any sign of the photographer. lf l can find when he was working then l can find when the picture was taken. Although l was told it was 1870s l think its much later. Any ideas about what l can do next would be appreciated. Andy (LEICESTER)

I tried three Shrewsbury trade directories without success, then from a google found: "Engraved in black beneath photograph "Successor to Stanley Hurst. Hunter. Castle Street, Shrewsbury" for someone quoted as having lived 1877 to 1927. Bit difficult to get at fiche viewer at present to look at later directories, but maybe this will assist. Jo.

I have a number of old photos taken by Stanley Hurst, though these are 1898 to 1910 and were probably taken in Wrexham. On the back is printed: Stanley Hurst Studios: 26 Castle St., Shrewsbury, 3a High St., Wrexham. Cheers Graham
