Dear Mike (or anyone else with Bishop's Castle area interests/knowledge) My great grandfather Charles Pugh was born at Clunbury in 1850, but the family was at Lydbury North in the 1851 census. Then in subsequent censuses in Bishop's Castle. Charles himself married Mary Davies of Ruyton and worked as an agricultural labourer right across Shropshire and as far as Brewood in Staffordshire in the 1881 census - so I am glad on computer indexes otherwise I would not have found him. His parents were Thomas Pugh probably born in Llandyssil, Mont about 1802. His mother appears to be Sarah Humphries born about 1813 in Llanllwchaiarn, Mont and may have married at Aberhafesp, Mont. Thomas appears to have disappeared from the records between 1861 and 1871. Sarah is in the Bishop's Castle censuses up to 1881 when she was listed as a pauper. I have identified a number of possible children, but am concerned that some are misidentified. The names are: Sarah; Thomas; Elizabeth; Jane; Mary; Charles (himself); William (according to my father but haven't found him in records). I started my family history research about 30 years ago, but it's taken me till this summer with the aid of internet research to find Charles birthplace (one census has him at Cleobury North) and identify his parents. Any help/advice would be gratefully received. They moved out of the area. John joined the army and moved to Newcastle under lyme and Charles married in Stanton Lacy and moved to Ludlow. Thanks for the offer of help about Bishops Castle but at the moment i have very little info and no definite evidence they were actually ever at Bishop's Castle.
