Hello Graham, I am looking for information on the early life of John Cameron Hazlett Sankey, who was born to an unmarried connection of mine, Helen/Helena Elizabeth Sankey at 233 Goulburn Street, Sydney in 1897. Was there a census of NSWaround 1901, and if so, do the records exist? I believe 233 Goulburn St was some sort of home for unmarried mothers. Sorry this is not a Shropshire question, though Helen Elizabeth's father came from Ludlow. Regards, Charles Sankey
Hello charles I will reply off-list Cheers Graham
Hi Charles All census data for Australia was burnt as soon as it was checked. Disastrous! They certainly did not follow the old rules and regs of good old Britain. Still the same today, though now it is probably shredded. However, in our State Library of Melbourne in Vic., there is a 1900-1901 electoral roll for NSW. I doubt if it will show much, just the name of the head of the household and the address -- that's all the early one's did. Next trip into our State Library I shall have a look for you, and anything else I might be able to check. If there is anything else you can think of, please feel free to mail.
