Hello Yvonne Whilst Civil Registration records only started in 1837 there are some Birth, Marriage and Death indexes at the Family Records Centre in London which go back into the 1700's and might well include a record of a birth at sea or overseas c.1815. There are two or three different indexes which might be of use to you. If you can't easily get to London the Pay-per-View web site www.1837online.com has a copy of these - look in the Overseas section.
