Is there anyone out there who could help me discover what happened to Harriet Chilton, her husband William Thomas Chilton and their young son Herbert Bromfield Chilton. I have them living in Trench in the 1881 census but nothing after that. Carl Buchan
Hello Carl They certainly didn't want to be found in the 1891 and 1901 census. I tried searching by surname without forename(s) and also forename without surname but I couldn't see them. Have you considered emigration? Of course they may have just managed to avoid the enumerator or the writing is so difficult that they don't come up in the index. If you don't have access to Ancestry.co.uk on the Internet at home try your local library - more and more now have access. Do also try the alternative sites which have the 1891 and 1901 censuses, one of them might have them indexed.
