YES it does cost money, bought in Units, not subscriptions, I was offered a subscription rate from 1837online .. a great bargain for £50 for a year, which has been a great value, as I have been able to find lots of my family and order certificates. I believe they offered this rate to regular users of the site, so it is by invitation only, as far as I know.
