    3. Hello, My name is Ian Massey-Crosse and I am trying to trace the family of my (7 > times great) grandfather Charles WHICHCOTE who died at Rostherne in Cheshire in 1677. I believe CW may have moved to Cheshire either during or following the Civil War. I have found a document on A2A which is a conveyance for some property in Coventry, which was sold by a Charles Whichcote in 1635. This describes CW as a citizen of London. I have also seen on A2A that a Charles Whichcote, merchant was party in an action in the House of Lords, Whichcote v. Knightley in 1646. I am not sure whether these Charles Whichcotes are the one I am looking for. I believe the Whichcote family has its origins in Lincolnshire, but I also saw a 1628 document on A2A relating to an Edward Whichcote of Stoake in the Parish of Burford. This document was a conveyance for land at Whitton in Shropshire. I am not sure whether EW lived in Shropshire. I know there is a Burford in Oxfordshire, but is there also a Burford in Shropshire ? I am hoping somebody on this list can help me to find a link to my Whichcote family. I suspect that my Charles Whichcote may have been a younger son, and therefore had to move away from home in order to make a life for himself. Please can anyone help ? Ian Massey-Crosse

    3. Hello Ian There is a Burford in Shropshire. It is in the south of the county 6.5 miles south east of Ludlow and is actually adjacent to the county boundary just across the River Teme from Tenbury Wells which is in Worcestershire. If you have an Ordnance Survey map you will find Burford at SO 593 688.
