Hello John The Family History Society of Cheshire has published a microfiche listing of Malpas marriages 1561 to 1837. There is no marriage for a John Sands listed there, though there are two female Sands marriages - Eliz. in 1713, who married John Taylor of Whitchurch; and Hester of Cholmondeley who married John Hough of Bickerton in 1744. I have done a listing of marriages in Marbury (from the PR, not yet checked against the BTs) and I cannot find a John Sands getting married there in the early 1700s. The Bertram Merrell Index of Cheshire marriages published on CD by the FHS Cheshire has a Hugh Sands (possibly the same man?) getting married 3 times in Shocklach - in 1683 to Margaret Dt Dudley; in 1690 to Mary Whitley; and on 2 Aug 1700 to Margaret Edwards. There are very few Sands marriages on this CD, but the index does have significant gaps in it. It was compiled mostly from BTs, which tend to have more gaps in them than PRs. I have had huge trouble with my Purcell ancestors who hopped back and forward between Whitchurch and Malpas and Marbury. I've searched for the birth of a John Ruscoe who married in Whitchurch in 1738 and at this time he has settled in Wem near Edstaston in Salop. I've found some Ruscoe's in those area's, but each time I find the birth of a John around the correct time, 1710-1717 possibley, they all seem to die in infancy or early childhood. Any direction you could point me in would be really appreciated. Regards, Jan

I also have some burials for roughly the same period: John Ruscoe senior of Norbury Common bur 10 June 1700 Sarah Ruscoe wife of David Ruscoe senior, husbandman bur 29 Oct 1700 John Ruscoe infant son of John Ruscoe bur 17 Apr 1701 David Ruscoe of Norbury Side senior bur 2 Jan 1705 Ellenor Ruscoe of Norbury wife of Thomas Ruscoe husbandman bur 2 Jan 1705 Norbury is a township in Marbury Chapelry and does not have it's own registers. Where are you based?
