Does anyone have any opinions on H. E. Forrest as an author or what is his standing nowadays? He wrote "The Old Houses of Shrewsbury" (1935) and "The Old Churches of Shrewsbury" (1922), among others, but I was very surprised at the mistakes he makes in his article for the Transactions of the Shropshire Archaelogical and Nat. Hist. Soc. "The Thornes Family of Thornes Hall" (TSAS fourth series vol. viii 1920-21 p. 260 ff). When he describes the younger line of the Thornes family (p.265) he seems to be quoting from the 1623 Visitation from memory and getting most of it wrong; he even says some of the data come from the 1663 Visitation, which as far as I know does not even have a Thornes pedigree. Thank you, Alejandro Milberg Boston, Mass. **************New MapQuest Local shows what's happening at your destination. Dining, Movies, Events, News & more.
