    1. [ENG-SHROP] Married in two churches on the same date?
    2. I was surprised to see a marriage appear in two different churches/parishes. >From the Kinnerley parish register, p.58 of the printed version: 29 June 1701, Mr. John Payne, of Argoed, and Eliz: Jones, of Llansanfried (sic). >From the St. Martin parish register, p. 134 of the printed version: 29 June 1701, Mr. John Payne of the Argot and Mrs. Elizabeth Jones of loer (sic) Ridge. Any ideas to explain this? They are certainly the same people. Thank you, Alejandro Milberg Boston, Mass. **************AOL Search: Your one stop for directions, recipes and all other Holiday needs. 3. Hi This is slightly off the topic of marriage but I was looking through some transcripts of the Oswestry PR and came across 1728 Apr 12 Mr John Paynne of Argoid (sic) - a burial. This may be the same person. My interest is in the Paynes hence finding it. 3. Dear All I've a similar issue, as according to the IGI my gx5 grandparents seem to have married twice on successive weeks in two separate parishes, details as below: IGI Batch: M008661 Marriages: JOHN HAY Male Spouse: WINIFRED PARSONS Marriage: 21 JAN 1759 Stanton Lacy, Shropshire, England IGI Batch: M016141 Marriages: JOHN HAY Male Spouse: WINIFRED PARSONS Family Marriage: 14 FEB 1759 Burford Apparently married at both Stanton Lacy 21 Jan 1759 AND Burford 14 Feb 1759. Could the earlier entry for Stanton Lacy relate to banns? I recognise that I need to check to the registers in printed form or on microfiche at the Shropshire Archives, when I can next visit. However would be interested in anyone's thoughts on this. Best wishes Martin Hughes -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: 11 November 2008 23:46 To: [email protected] Subject: [ENG-SHROP] Married in two churches on the same date? 3. Earlier one will be Banns....often they were entered in the Marriage register eapecially if a Banns register was not maintained. As banns were read in the parish of residence of both groom & bride there are a lot of "double" entries for this. Clue is usually if the two dates are within 3 weeks of each other (Banns were read thrice on consecutive Sundays) -------- Original Message -------- > Dear All > > I've a similar issue, as according to the IGI my gx5 grandparents seem to > have married twice on successive weeks in two separate parishes, details as > below: > > IGI Batch: M008661 > Marriages: JOHN HAY Male > Spouse: WINIFRED PARSONS > Marriage: 21 JAN 1759 Stanton Lacy, Shropshire, England > > IGI Batch: M016141 > Marriages: JOHN HAY Male > Spouse: WINIFRED PARSONS Family > Marriage: 14 FEB 1759 Burford > > Apparently married at both Stanton Lacy 21 Jan 1759 AND Burford 14 Feb 1759. > > > Could the earlier entry for Stanton Lacy relate to banns? > > I recognise that I need to check to the registers in printed form or on > microfiche at the Shropshire Archives, when I can next visit. > > However would be interested in anyone's thoughts on this. > > Best wishes > > Martin Hughes > > -----Original Message----- > From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] > Sent: 11 November 2008 23:46 > To: [email protected] > Subject: [ENG-SHROP] Married in two churches on the same date? > > I was surprised to see a marriage appear in two different > churches/parishes. > > >From the Kinnerley parish register, p.58 of the printed version: > > 29 June 1701, Mr. John Payne, of Argoed, and Eliz: Jones, of Llansanfried > (sic). > > >From the St. Martin parish register, p. 134 of the printed version: > > 29 June 1701, Mr. John Payne of the Argot and Mrs. Elizabeth Jones of loer > (sic) Ridge. > > Any ideas to explain this?
