Hi Sandra In 2003 Susan West at [email protected] was researching Anslow families of Culmington, record of such still in the Eng-Shropshire archives. Five years down the track, not sure if she would still have the same email address, but you can try. Hugh Wallis' IGI Batch No. website shows no marriages for Anslow post 1627 Hopton Wafers. Seems very few Anslows around Salop in those days showing up at the established church. Could be some registers not yet transcribed to the IGI? Possible reason. Cheers Graham Melbourne Oz.
Agree about the registers Graham. I even wrote to the record office about marriages/births in the early 1800s only to be told some churches still hold there own records and they gave me some churches in the Shifnal area where that was the case. In 1992 the Church of England ruled that all registers which were 150 years old or more for baptisms and burials to be closed down and deposited with Record Offices, with the exception of marriages post 1837 even though many of these have also been deposited. Obviously some parishes did not comply with this ruling and as for marriages, did not have to. Cheers Graham
Further to the emails on church records...I have been told many times by record offices and vicars that the church is able to keep it's own records providing they can prove they have an adequate fireproof safe deposit box. I have been there when the vicar took out the relevant records [several times] and put them out for me to search within the last 15 years.
