Hi all I suppose I am simply adding my voice to many who feel they have been unfairly targeted with cost concerning the FMP charges for viewing the 1911 census, when one can usually get hold of a page of the 1901 at a local library for 10 or 15 cents. Nearly four pounds sterling (according to changing monetary values) for one full page view of a household is undoubtedly a blatant rip-off, no matter what work has been done to put the 1911 on line. Most genealogists are old-timers, pensioners mostly with limited funds to splurge on such things as one pound sterling. I myself am 73 years of age, part Department of Veterans Affairs pensioner, part still working several hours per day. This helps to pay for my genealogy research, otherwise it would not be. Forget about it, stuff me in an old wooden box and put me to sleep. For those on a full pension in the United Kingdom and also in places such as Australia and New Zealand, perhaps Canada and the USA also, the charges put forward by Find My Past are absolutely and totally intolerable. The majority of people simply cannot find the money to pay for such. The credit system by FMP is not sustainable for those on low incomes. e.g. £6.95 - 60 credits - £0.12 per credit expire 19 April 2009 £24.95 - 280 credits - £0.09 per credit expire 19 January 2010 £49.95 - 600 credits - £0.08 per credit expire 19 January 2010 As a part pensioner I quickly used up my 280 credits in less than one and a half days simply looking for folk within one family surname in Middlesex! One family! And that was with no errors. No errors. Simply perfect transcripts and original pages downloaded. All gone on virtually one family! Which was pleasant, do not get me wrong. I got what I asked for, but it surely could have been at a much lesser price! I again bought another 60 credits to catch up on some others but these credits were gone within fifteen minutes. On the face of it, if I were to apply for the necessary credits to find my other "missing" families in various counties of England on the 1911 census I might be looking at well over one thousand credits required for a start and which, even then, still would perhaps not fulfill my needs. Two thousand, three thousand? Counting. And to top it all off, I have not yet started on my Welsh counties because they have not yet been transcribed, and believe me, I would need another thousand or more credits to get to them. There are many of them just waiting to be found. FMP are you trying to bankrupt me? Graham Melbourne Oz
