Hi, After quite a long break on this line I am returning to Salop. My message belong is a bit long, I apologise. Following the beta test of the 1911 census I have managed to finally get two families "separated" and dismiss one from my research. However, I have, of course, found new queries I need help with. In 1911 the widow Jane (nee BARNET) JARVIS stated she had given birth to 7 children, 5 living, 2 deceased. She had lived from 1841-1901 in Watling Street, Wellington. In 1911 she was in Chernington Ct., Wellington. The number of children living is where I am struggling: I have 7 children as she stated but I thought only 4 were still alive: Lucy born 1863 died 1866 from accidental scolding; William born 1864 who is with his mother in 1911; Emma born 1866; John Henry born 1868; Lucy (my husband's ancestor) supposedly died before 1905 in Ironbridge -this came from her daughter who was my husband's great-grandmother; Rose born 1871 and Esther born 1874 assumed to have died before 1881 as she is not with the family on the 1881 or 1891 censuses. In fact there is a birth and death registration for an Esther in Dec 1874 which fits. So, it would appear that Lucy is the one who may not have been dead....but how on earth do I go about finding her? I have tried searching the 1891 and 1901 censuses for her and/or her daughter Rosalia (born illegitimately in Wellington in Nov 1885). I have also tried FreeBMD for marriages or deaths but can't find anyone who is likely to be her. For my second query I need to go backwards. Jane (above) was born variously as follows Salop (1841 census); Tonge (1851, 1871 and 1911 census); Newport (1861 & 1881 census); Wellington (1891 census). I THINK she was the Jane d/o Joseph & Mary who was baptised in Tonge on 15 Mar 1833. Her parents were definitely a Joseph & Mary according to 1851 census, her marriage certificate and who she is with in 1841 census. Her parents and siblings, however, are causing me some difficulty, and it's here that we need to make sure we do not confuse this family with that of the other Joseph & Mary BARNETT who were in Ketley throughout! Firstly, in 1841 there is a 7-year old Elizabeth who is not there in 1851 but seems to have been replaced by a 20 year old Esther who was born in Stanton. I need to establish is this is one and the same person. Brother Joseph was bapt 1835 in Newport; sister Emma 4, appears in 1841 and then is not there in 1851 and Sarah born 1843 Watling St., appears in 1851 but not in 1861. Given that they seem to have moved from Stanton to Tonge to Newport to Wellington (Joseph having been born abt 1805 in Heath Hill or Newport and Mary having been born about 1810 Pave Lane or Newport) I am wondering if they are Joseph BARNETT and Mary CLEVERLEY who married 11 05 1828, Newport. Despite Googling I am unable to get to grips with the exact geography to know how reasonable this all is. I was wondering if anyone could throw any light onto this family, either from the geographical angle or possibly from church records or even personal knowledge of these families. I appreciate it is a pretty mixed bag and non-specific query. I have been researching for over a decade now, so I know that quite a lot of the information I seem to be relying on is only as accurate as the people giving it and open to mistranscriptions etc. Any help would be appreciated. best wishes, Sherry Landa (23170, Viersat, FRANCE)
