Hello Listers, The IGI shows a marriage for John WATERS to Sarah BRIDGWATERS in Ludford on 22/7/1810. I've been conducting a fruitless search for a long time, to find John WATERS and probably wife & family, who I believe went to Wales in the early 19th century for the Iron Ore & Coal industry. I think Ludford is probably strategically placed for a starting point (please correct me if I'm wrong); also, 1810 is a good fit for a marriage to produce a daughter in c1815, my 3xGrtGrandmother, Sarah WATERS. I have a little more information about her, only because she was tried in Brecon for Larceny and transported (for a dress valued at 3/-) in 1833 for 7 years - like most, she never returned. Her death cert in Australia gave Abergavenny as birthplace (not on Bap records there.) I am hoping somebody might check Parish Registers in Ludford to see if this John & Sarah WATERS are recorded there beyond 1815, eg baptising children, deaths etc; even an 1841 census entry could rule them out as my ancestors. Any assistance will certainly be sincerely appreciated. Thank you for reading this. Kind regards, Dawn (Tasmania, Aust.)
Hello Dawn Unfortunately the Ludford registers were NOT printed when many others were about a hundred years ago but as you have found the Baptisms are on the IGI from 1647 to 1855 and Marriages 1661 to 1839 which means you should be able to find any likely references and you should also be able to order a copy of the microfilm through your local Mormon Family History Centre (you don't need to be a church member to use the library) where you can search the register yourself if no-one offers to do it in the UK. As far as I can see there are no WATERS within the correct time scale but there is a Maria WALTERS in 1814 on the IGI so I just wonder if you need to be a bit flexible with the spelling of the surname. If you are looking at the correct family I would expect there to be earlier children from an 1810 marriage. Often the first child will arrive within months of the marriage with others following at between one and two year intervals. You can do a Parent search on the IGI by entering the father's forename and surname together with the mother's forename, the event and its date range and the location (England or Wales) to see if you can find any likely children. As your most precise information is probably that of the trial date and place I would suggest you try a message board for the Brecon area to see if anyone can give you any more information from the trial papers.
