Hi All I am researching gg grandfather WILLIAM BARNETT born 1847 BOURTON his father also WILLIAM BARNETT was a boatman born FENNY COMPTON c1821 1851 census BOURTON it looks like they lived in a dwelling HO 107 1731 father WILLIAM BARNETT age 30 head boatman born FENNY COMPTON mother SARAH BARNETT age 26 born SHOTTESWELL son JOHN BARNETT age 9 attends the boat born CHIPPING WARDEN dau SARAH ANN age 7 born LITTLE BOURTON son WILLIAM BARNETT age 3 -- *my gg grandfather* an infant age 3 days -- in 1861 census RG 9 2177 age 13 he is boat boy on a boat John & Mary Ann Wilkins are boatman & boatwoman The boat is called "COMPETITOR" at the ASTON ROAD WHARF WARWICKSHIRE 1871 census RG 10 /3218 he is steerer and his younger brother EDWARD BARNETT is helper and it says: Canal boat "THE GUIDING STAR" W Brown of FENNY COMPTON being owner lying at his wharf on the night of 2nd of April. So what I would like to know: is it possible to find out where they travelled between and the loads or types of load that they carried. Does anyone know ? Where can I look ? I am due to visit the canal museum at Ellesmere Port next month in the hope of answers - am I on the right track going there? Hazel Green
