Hello, its been a few years since I last posted a letter to this List. I have a difficult research problem. I am trying to locate an Arthur JACOB a grandfather I have never met and know nothing about except the following which was located by a very kind List member about ten years ago. Ruth Lorraine PARSONAGE was my mother, she was born at 133 Beatrice Street, Oswestry, Shropshire. No fathers name was listed on her birth certificate. A christening record was located in Oswestry in the Holy Trinity, Oswestry parish records. Ref P215 Fiche 17, page 25, entry 198. This was dated the 24th of August, 1917 a month after Ruth was born, but the same date as her birth certificate was made. It lists a baby as Ruth Lorraine. The birth certificate shows only her mother as Ruth PARSONAGE, no fathers name was recorded. But the baptismal record shows the parents were Ruth and Arthur Jacob. Arthur was listed as a soldier. Their residence was 4 Trinity Cottages, Roft street. Living at 3 Trinity terrace in Roft street was Ruth mother Ellen Parsonage/Smith and her brother John Henry PARSONAGE along with a Johns sister Clara Beatrice PARSONAGE. I don't have a copy of the christening record and assume the information that was sent to me was everything they could see in the record book . Its a pity they did not get his forces number. Please can anyone add to my knowledge of Arthur other than he must have had a fast bike........................... :)) I know there was a large army transit camp local in Oswestry during the first world war. Has anyone come up with a list of the army personnel that went through this camp? Any suggestions would be welcomed. All my best in your own search. Mike Morris Toronto Canada
Can a kind list member help me with a look up in Oswestry for a list of absent voters or a post office address list of people who lived at Trinity terrace, Oswestry in 1916 or 1917. I am hoping to find Ruth and Arthur Jacob. Arthur might be listed as an absent voter due to him being a soldier in the forces. Their residence might be No.4 Trinity Cottages, Roft street. This was their address in 1917 on their daughter Ruth Lorraine's baptismal record. I was noted that In the Shropshire Records Office is a register of voters. The volumes for Oswestry begin in 1918. John Henry Parsonage my grandmothers brother was registered in this record as living in Oswestry's East Ward. A list of absent voters in Oswestry records John Henry's residence as Trinity terrace, Oswestry in 1918 and spring of 1919. But not in the register for the autumn of that year nor thereafter. My thanks for any help some one might be able to give me. Mike Morris Toronto Canada
