    3. Can anyone on this forum tell me where in UK records I might find information on American Loyalists who fought for George III and died in the war in America? One of my g+uncles, who married into a Loyalist family, went to Canada after the war. His father-in-law and a brother-in-law were killed in the battle of Charleston, South Carolina. We know the father-in-laws name, but the son's name is not shown in records here we have seen. We have good information on the Canadian settlement, but the land petitions do not give a name for the deceased son. Any lead to a possible UK source, death list, etc, would be greatly appreciated. I can provide names & dates if needed. Charlie Weaver (descendant of the Shropshire WEAVERs) Winston-Salem, North Carolina

    3. Charlie, While Americans have the "DAR", in the Canadians have the "United Empire Loyalists". Google has plenty of results for them. Also, many of the Loyalists claimed compensation from the British Government and the PRO in London has these records among the Treasury records. Hope this helps David Armstrong Maylands, Western Australia ----- Original Message ----- From: Pat & Charlie Can anyone on this forum tell me where in UK records I might find information on American Loyalists who fought for George III and died in the war in America? 3. Thanks, David. Have been on the UE Loyalists site, and others. Have found good info on UEL, but that's all info after they got to Canada. My G+uncle, Anthony DOHERTY Jr (var sp) married Mary McCOOL in Orange County, North Carolina, in 1788. The McCOOL family were Loyalists (Tories??) and they went to Canada in 1794. Mary McCOOL's father, Archibald, and one of his sons (unnamed but perhaps George), were killed in the Battle of Charleston, South Carolina. I thought there might be records in UK about these Loyalists who died in that war. Archibald's widow, and Anthony DOHERTY jr, received land grants in Canada.
