    3. Some of my WITHERS and WATKIN ancestors hail from the Shrewsbury area, notably Leaton. One was a gamekeeper and it seems they had a connection with Leaton Hall. Does anyone know anything about Leaton Hall please? I'm guessing it was a big country estate, but is it still there? >From internet research that I've done, Leaton still looks like a rural area outside Shrewsbury. Was there/is there a local burial ground or are my ancestors likely to have been buried within Shrewsbury itself? Another question I have is about civil registration areas. What is the difference between Atcham and Shrewsbury? Some of my ancestors are registered under Atcham, others under Shrewsbury, and I'm confused. 3. Hi Jenny, Regarding your last question.  If you google 'Atcham registration district' the first answer you get will be www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/reg/districts/atcham.html This tells you that Atcham registration district was created 1 July 1837 and was succeeded by Shrewsbury, Oswestry, Clun & Forden districts on 1 Oct 1935 - it also shows subdistricts. This is an easy way to see information relevant to each registration district. Best wishes, Sue > > Some of my WITHERS and WATKIN ancestors hail from the Shrewsbury area, notably Leaton.
