Hello list & thank you Sherry. I am hoping to find more information about the life & ancestry in England of Susannah HARRIS, native of Ludlow, born c.1813, daughter of John HARRIS, mother as yet unknown. Susannah was transported to Sydney,NSW,Australia as a convict, aged 16 years, aboard the ship 'Lucy Davidson' which sailed from London 10th July 1829 & arrived Sydney 29th November 1829. As best as I have determined so far Susannah was tried & convicted twice in the County of Salop, firstly at the April, 1828 session for Ludlow, age 15 years, convicted of larceny, sentenced to 6 weeks inprisonment, & secondly on the 17th July 1828 at the Quarter sessions of Salop ,town & liberties of Ludlow, convicted of stealing or shoplifting, sentenced to 7 years. In the Shrewsbury Chronicle, page 3, of 25th July 1828 there is a paragraph that mentions Sussannah HARRIES or HARRLES, it is hard to read. "At Ludlow sessions, James CORFIELD, Daniel WAINWRIGHT, and William EVERALL were convicted of stealing three oak poles, the property of James GRAHAM; also Susannah HARRIES, for stealing 13 yards of sarcenet ribbon, the property of Maria PEACH, were sentenced to 7 years transportation. They were lodged in our gaol on Wednesday. On Susannah's certificate of freedom, granted in 1836, she is described as a native of Ludlow, born 1813, servant, 5'4 & 1/2" tall, fair complexion, light brown hair, dark hazel eyes, wife of David LUNT. David LUNT & Susannah HARRIS were granted permission to marry on 5th December 1831, a son Thomas LUNT was born 17th May 1832. Susannah absconded from David LUNT in March 1834. She then entered a 25 year relationship with Joseph STEVENS, the first of their 11 children was born in August of 1835. Susannah died at Bathurst, NSW, Australia on 10th March 1887. I have transcripts of most of the family bdm certs & convict records issued in Australia but none give any further clues to Susannah's parentage or early life in England. Any & all help or suggestions will be much appreciated. Regards, Vicki, Hunter Valley, NSW, Australia.
