    1. Re: [ENG-SHROP] "Detached" parishes / chapel(s)-of-ease

    3. Hello Ken I think your first paragraph is referring to Halesowen and Oldbury. Halesowen was an ancient parish which included the township of Oldbury and a few other small places nearby, namely Cakemore, Hasbury, Hawne, Hill, Hunnington, Illey, Langley, Lapal, Ridgacre, Romsley and Warley. (Source: The Parishes and Townships of Shropshire - see sfhs.org.uk) They were a detached part of Shropshire but all transferred to Worcestershire in 1844 so it depends which side of that date you are interested in. With regard to your second paragraph the idea of somewhere in east Shropshire being linked with a Shrewsbury parish doesn't really make much sense in the days when the clergy had to walk or travel on horseback from A to B. I just wonder if this idea stems from two places in Shropshire having the same name. Albrighton, just north of Shrewsbury, was a detached Chapelry of Shrewsbury St Mary ancient parish BUT there is also an ancient parish of Albrighton between Shifnal and Wolverhampton. Whilst the two places have the same name they don't have any other connection. The publication shown above explains all these problems.
