I heard on our local radio this morning, that the statue of John Robert Godley (the founder of ChCh), was founded in the Shropshire Coalbrookdale foundry. The statue was thrown off its plinth during the earthquake, revealing a bronze(?) time capsule together with a broken glass capsule. The Chch museum has gathered both together, and with latest techniques will carefully open both capsules to reveal their contents. The rolled up papers in the glass one, are water marked, but the museum scientist reckons that they can unwind them OK.
