Help to solve a mystery. Does anyone have any connections or information on a MARY ELLEN (ALMA) SHEMILT. It is claimed that she was born in 1870-3, the later census have said Wolverhampton but family claim she was born in Shropshire/Staffordshire. On her marriage certificate it says that her father was called Thomas, a farmer. She married up in Lancashire in September 1891. I cant trace her anywhere, rumour says that she was born in a big house, her mother died and her father remarried and she Mary Ellen was either cast out or sent away. When she married my husbands grandfather they gave an address of convenience as their residence. I have a large family tree of the SHEMILT family but at this point I have had to sever it at the point of Mary Ellen until I can prove her parentage. Any help would be appreciated.
